Catwoman was introduced in Batman #1 all the way back in 1940. This iconic Gotham City Siren was initially named 'the Cat' and her first storyline involved her posing as an elderly woman to commit a burglary she had been hired to do. Even in her first appearance, she was portrayed as the mysterious cat burglar and jewel thief fans know and love.

Over 80 years after her debut, Catwoman has been featured in a number of movies, TV shows, comics and video games as both an anti-hero and one of Batman's most trusted, loyal allies. Her involvement over the years within video games has been particularly fascinating; this character has seen several different voice actors, looks and many changes to her persona itself, and these games have done it best.

8 Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was released in 2008 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Catwoman was featured as one of the game's many playable characters and showcased both her incredible athletic abilities and combat skills.

Her look seems to be inspired by her appearance in Catwoman #1, pairing goggles with her iconic black catsuit. It's worth noting that her personality within this game seems to differ greatly from anything fans had seen in the past, that is, her being a lot less seductive in her tone of voice and much more sassy. The game itself had many mixed reviews, with quite a few fans taking a disliking to it. However, in terms of Catwoman's video game appearances, it certainly is one of the best.

The Adventures of Batman and Robin is a game based on Batman: The Animated Series, released in 1994 on the SNES and published by Konami. Catwoman appears in the level 'Tale of the Cat', where she is robbing jewelers with her cat, Isis. Here, Batman chases her across rooftops and down alleyways and, all the while, the pair engage in combat; Catwoman uses her signature whip when she attacks.

She is also dressed in her iconic gray catsuit which she wore in the very series the game is inspired by. Despite the lack of voice acting, the dialogue still perfectly captures both Catwoman's charm and the tension between her and The Dark Knight. For those reasons, this game is easily one of her best appearances.

6 Batman: The Brave And The Bold

Batman: The Brave and the Bold, like The Adventures of Batman and Robin, is a game based on the TV show it shares its name with, released on the Wii and DS back in 2011. Catwoman is portrayed as a villain in this game, and one of the few bosses to appear in both versions of the game.

Her look in both this video game and the show itself is inspired by her original costume which she wore in the 1950s: purple dress, green cape, cat mask, and long black hair - one of the many fan favorite designs. Her voice actor, Nika Futterman, did an incredible job at capturing the seductive nature of the character as well her quick wit and impatience for anyone that isn't Batman. All in all, this is one of her better video game appearances.

While these games are targeted towards children, the creators did a great job at keeping Catwoman true to character despite her usually sexual nature; she still remains true to her seductive persona, but in a PG way. Even though the LEGO series is rated E10+, they portrayed Catwoman much more accurately than other, more mature, games have in the past and, for that reason, one of her best appearances are within these games.

4 Catwoman (2004)

catwoman 2004

Catwoman was a game released in 2004 as a tie-in to the movie, featuring Halle Berry, with the very same name. The story follows a woman named Patience Phillips who stumbles across her employers' dark secret which leads to her murder; Patience is resurrected by a magical cat and brought back to life with cat-like abilities, allowing her to become Catwoman and seek vengeance.

Of course, both the film and game portray a very different Catwoman to what fans are used to, but that doesn't make her character any less badass. In fact, its release had players begging for more games with her as the main character, thus, making it one of her most iconic video game appearances yet.

3 Injustice

Catwoman appears in both the Injustice games, featuring as a minor antagonist in the original game and a major character within the sequel. She's one of the games' most acrobatic, fastest fighters and is equipped with both a whip and cat claws.

She is voiced by the incredible Grey DeLisle, a fan favorite Catwoman who really knows how to capture Selina's seductive yet badass tone. Whilst her outfit in Injustice 2 is similar to what players have seen from the character before, her Injustice: Gods Among Us design seems to be a cross between a (more mature) take on her Batman: The Animated Series look and her original purple costume.

2 Batman: The Telltale Series

Batman: The Telltale Series is a graphic adventure story-telling game released across several platforms including Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2016. Catwoman appears as a major character within the game and the tritagonist of Batman. Her look within this game, like in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, is more reminiscent of her look after Catwoman #1.

Thanks to the nature of the game, players are given a chance to look deeper into who Catwoman really is. While in previous adaptions of the character, is portrayed as both selfish and shallow, in this game, fans learn that, in reality, she can be extremely caring and even insecure. Both this development and her romantic relationship with Batman within this game make her character much more human and, as a result, is one of her best video game appearances.

1 Batman Arkhamverse

The Batman Arkhamverse, of course, includes the incredibly influential triage of games that are Arkham Asylum, City and Knight. Every character within the series is explored in much more depth than fans have seen before, and Catwoman is no exception to that.

Within these games, players get to see the relationship between Catwoman and Batman develop which, like the Telltale series, makes their characters become much more human.

Fans get to see a different side to Selina too; instead of being self-obsessed and shallow, Catwoman often makes selfless sacrifices to save Batman - in fact, she was willing to set aside plans of escaping Gotham with her loot just to rescue him. Her character is an all-round badass in the Arkhamverse, from her outfits to her attitude, and,as a result, this remains her best appearance by far in a video game to date.
