Since word first got out that Castlevania would be on the receiving end of an animated series, fans have been chomping at the bit to see what a take on Konami's classic video game property would look like. The show – being produced by Netflix – has now received its first-ever trailer and it's sure to, at the very least, intrigue followers of the original, side-scrolling NES games.

In fact, the debut teaser opens with a nostalgia-inducing look at a Nintendo Entertainment System, as an unseen player uses it to load up the trailer on the console. The footage that follows features a number of nods to the game series (such as the famous whip utilized by the Belmont family), but it also doesn't shy away from the gothic and violent nature of the gaming franchise either. The end result is an exciting look at Castlevania that should have hopeful viewers eager for its July 7th premiere.

After Netflix pulled the metaphorical curtain back on the poster for Castlevania it became obvious which direction the television show would be heading, but to see it in action (albeit only in a brief teaser form) makes good on the promises of show runners and the aforementioned poster. Indeed, this should make for one of the more gory takes on the vampire-slaying property, although how true it will stick to the games' narrative still remains to be seen.

It's odd to note that previous reports have pegged this Castlevania show to follow the same plot as Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, and yet the NES cartridge featured within the trailer appears to be a modified take on the original Castlevania game art. Having said that, the original cartridge wasn't made with red, translucent plastic either, so it is clear that at least some creative license is being taken with this project – which likely isn't a bad thing since the show's producer, Adi Shankar, has stated that the series "is very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones.”

Castlevania is set to arrive on Netflix on July 7, 2017.
