All members of the Belmont clan are skilled vampire hunters, but who is the strongest of them all?

During his many campaigns, he has encountered many memorable characters, both good and evil. Each of them had Richter speak fondly, brashly, or somewhere in between whip cracks and dodging attacks. Here are some of his memorable quotes in the various Castlevania games as well as in the Netflix series.

5 ‘’I Am Richter Belmont, Last Descendant Of The Belmont Clan, And I Kill Vampires!’’

One of the things the Castlevania games didn’t touch on is how Richter became a proficient vampire hunter who is fit to carry the Belmont clan’s reputation. In Castlevania: Nocturne, fans, and gamers get to see how Richter eventually carries the mantle and responsibility of his bloodline.

After discovering a secret passageway into the abbey, Richter and the gang square off against Drolta and a number of night creatures. With the enemies close to being defeated, Richter shouts this quote, signaling their victory. However, Olrox appears and causes Richter to remember his traumatizing past and has him flee. This led his allies to retreat as well while learning about the abbey’s sinister plot.

4 ‘’I'm Quite Happy With My Whip And Knives, Thank You.’’

Richter Belmont showcasing his whip and knife skills

The Belmont clan is known for their skill in vanquishing vampires. When it comes to dispatching their fanged enemies, the Belmont clan prefers to use the Vampire Killer whip. This weapon has been passed down from generation to generation of Belmonts, and no other person can wield this whip with much ferocity and skill than hunters with Belmont blood running through their veins.

Richter is no exception to this. He mentions in Castlevania: Nocturne that while he does not mind having his allies use magic or relying on mystical concoctions or spells during skirmishes with night creatures, Richter prefers his Vampire Killer whip and knives since killing vampires with this implement upholds the Belmont clan’s legacy in his eyes. That said, he also stated that some of the Belmont family members can wield magic and are adept spellcasters. But in his case, he still needs to practice his magic use to make it a viable combat option if he wants to.

Richter and Maria having a conversation

Richter does not have many friends, but the ones he does call his companions are near and dear to him. One of his closest allies is Maria Renard, a young lady who possesses immense magical power. She is known as a Vampire Huntress and is a distant relative of the Belmont clan.

The first meeting of Richter and Maria saw the former save the latter after being imprisoned in a dungeon in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. After freeing Maria, Richter instructed her to get back to safety, to which Maria retorted that she was more than capable of defending herself. As Richter scoffed and dismissed her, Maria suddenly summoned a ferocious dragon out of her frustration.

2 “But People Cannot Be Ruled By Power Alone! The Sacred, The Honorable, The Loved... Those Things Can Rule Humanity. Something Evil Will Eventually Fall To Ruin!”

Following the conclusion of Dracula and Richter’s battle in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Richter stands over Dracula, who is on his knees. The Lord of Shadows laments that in this lifetime, yet another Belmont has claimed his life and snuffed his ambitions out with such ferocity. Before fading away, Dracula warns Richter that eventually, humanity will bring him back, since it is their nature to be fueled by greed and desire power by any means necessary. Richter sternly responds by stating that ruling solely by power is folly: people should be ruled with compassion, honor, and understanding.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night starts off with a bang as it whisks players to the climactic battle between Richter, the last of the Belmont clan, and Dracula, the Lord of Darkness. But before the two would square off, each had some fighting words for one another.

Richter starts the dialogue with this heroic yet cheesy line, denouncing that Dracula isn’t welcome in the mortal realm. Understandably, Dracula retorts by giving a spiel about his delusional understanding of religions and how he was summoned by humans who wished to pay him tribute. Of course, Richter takes offense to this and lambasts Dracula of his warped point of view: after throwing his goblet, Dracula engages Richter in fierce combat.

What makes this quote memorable is its wonderfully cringe delivery. Both Dracula and Richter’s over-the-top delivery of their pre-fight exchange is widely recognized by gamers as ‘’so bad that it’s good’’. Later versions of Symphony of the Night have updated the dialogue, but for those who want to experience this iconic piece of gaming lore, the PlayStation 1 version has this epic exchange.
