6 Underrated Sci-Fi Indie Games That Deserve More Attention

This list breaks down some great (and underrated) indie sci-fi games that have flown under the radar for far too long.

According to SteamDB (via PCGamesN), Castle Crashers is going through one of the best spells in its history. Starting from June 27, the first day of the Steam Summer Sale, the sidescroller has been attracting thousands of players with its active player count sitting at 6,326 at the time of writing. On June 29, it reached a total of 10,467 concurrent players, crossing the 10K mark for the first time since June 2015. This is the fourth-highest number of concurrent players ever for the game, with the best being 16,013 from back in June 2014. Moreover, Castle Crashers is also among the most highly-rated co-op games on Steam, boasting an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating based on more than 83K user reviews.

Apart from Castle Crashers, there are several other indie games that are up for grabs for discounted prices. These include notable titles such as Celeste, Stardew Valley, and Hades, which are available for the respective prices of USD 1.99 (90% off), USD 8.99 (40% off), and USD 9.99 (60% off). On the other hand, an array of AAA games have also slashed their prices, with GOTY winner Baldur's Gate 3 hitting a record-low price.

Over the past two decades, Steam has grown by leaps and bounds to become the most popular digital storefront for PC games, with a user base as vast as its library of PC titles. Interestingly, another thing that turns out to be vast is the backlog of unplayed Steam games, which apparently totals up to a whopping sum of money. With another major sale going on, this backlog could be expected to balloon further.
