Cassette Beasts, created by the indie team Bytten Studio, has been confirmed as a day on title for Xbox Game Pass. Bytten’s first console release is a monster-fusing, open-world RPG that will let players collect monsters to use during turn-based battles. While that concept sounds familiar, Cassette Beasts' in-game mechanics will work a little differently. Raw Fury released an announcent trailer on Twitter confirming the game is coming to Xbox Game Pass.
While the Xbox Game Pass announcements have been plentiful, Raw Fury was excited to announce that it was going to publish Cassette Beasts on Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S via Xbox Game Pass on PC and consoles. Raw Fury, indie game publisher, already has a few games on Xbox Game Pass, including Call of the Sea and Sable.
For those unfamilar with Cassette Beasts, the game takes a twist on the Pokemon formula and sees its cast record their creatures on cassette tapes. However, instead of releasing them to fight for the players enjoyment, these tapes can then be used for the player to fuse into the monster forms, remixing them into more powerful beasts. Any two of the game’s 120 monsters can be fused together in this way for over 14,000 possible combos.
Unlike other games coming to Xbox Games Pass, Plot-wise, Cassette Beasts plays the "unstoppable power of friendship" track on repeat. Fans will meet a diverse cast of characters in their adventure, and building bonds to strengthen relationships. When a player is transformed they can combine their strengths to gain the upper hand in battle by fusing to produce unique, fully-animated new fusion forms.
Fans will have a rich open world to explore in Cassette Beasts, with certain abilities able to be used outside of battle which include flying, swimming, and even turning magnetic. Xbox Games Pass players interested in this pixel adventure will have to use these powers to navigate the world, explore dungeons, or to help solve puzzles. Cassette Beasts‘ battle system has players taking advantage of elemental matching to maximise their monster's attacks and defence. Finding opponent's weaknesses in elemtents is nothing new but combining the power sets of two monsters is a fresh take.
While waiting for Casseette Beasts, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can expect new games to hit the service later this month. Nine Xbox Game Pass games will be added between October 21 and 24 including Dragon Ball FighterZ and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. However, fans should also expect games getting removed. Xbox Game Pass is losing 10 games at the end of October, including the first four Five Nights at Freddy's games.
Cassette Beasts doesn’t currently have a release date, but will be released on PC, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S via Xbox Game Pass.
