Nintendo recently held an Indie World showcase to debut a handful of new indie titles coming to the Switch. Among those announcements was a new game that centers around the art of cheating at card games, aptly named Card Shark.
Card Shark is all about using card tricks and deception to cheat at card games. Players will take their deceptive sleight of hand tricks throughout a 2D, 18th Century Europe and hone in their skills to increase winnings and play into some very high stakes card games. Mastering techniques and new ways to hide cards from opponents will grant players access to new locations to scam some other unsuspecting NPCs. Part of the Card Sharks charm is that the card techniques used in the game are real manipulation techniques used today.
Cheating at cards can be a risky route to winning money, whether it be in Card Sharks or in real life and the gameplay features dire consequences for those who try to swindle other people. Card Sharks takes a roguelike progression approach to gameplay and if a player is caught, they're likely to lose everything after a duped opponent pulls out a pistol. Learning the skills to trick others and when to press one's luck can lead to big payouts or certain death.
Card Shark developer Nerial is no stranger to games that have players press their luck, as it previously worked on the card-swiping franchise, Reigns, which included a crossover with Game of Thrones back in 2018. Reigns: Game of Thrones was published by Devolver Digital, which is partnering with Nerial again to bring Card Shark to the Nintendo Switch.
While Card Shark's neat and risky gameplay caught the eye of many during the Indie World showcase, Nintendo had a few other announcements to excite fans. Of those announcements, the final reveal may have been the most exciting for players who love to bother others. In typical fashion, the goose from Untitled Goose Game popped up with a video to announce that it was adding a co-op mode for free in September.
Card Shark is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2021.
