During an Internal Revenue (IR) shareholders meeting today, Capcom confirmed that there are no plans to port Monster Hunter World to Nintendo Switch, despite its popularity. However, while answering that question Capcom also confirmed that there are plans to make a new Monster Hunter game in the works, one that middle-to-high school-aged kids will be able to enjoy.

The exact scope of this potential new Monster Hunter game is vague, perhaps in part due to the question needing to be translated from Japanese. Given the proximity of the answers, it seems fair to assume that specifying a younger audience is Capcom's way of implying that the game will be on Switch, especially given all other platforms have Monster Hunter World with consistent updates to play. However, mentioning a younger audience may also be a way to suggest the new title will be a spin-off rather than an official entry.

Nintendo's hardware has seen both kinds of content in the past. The 3DS received a mainline title in Monster Hunter Generations (Monster Hunter X in Japan) as well as a turn-based RPG spin-off in Monster Hunter Stories. In 2018, the Nintendo Switch received the updated Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Monster Hunter XX in Japan), but since then the franchise has been dormant on that console due to Capcom's focus on Monster Hunter World.

Though Nintendo fans have missed out on the latest entry, Monster Hunter World has received a lot of content updates since it first released. The fourth major title update for the Iceborne Expansion was delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but Capcom recently confirmed that the free update will launch on July 9, 2020, with more information about what that update will include coming on July 3.

Despite the ongoing pandemic's wide-reaching effects on game development and other forms of entertainment media, there is still Monster Hunter-related content on the way for all fans to enjoy. The live-action Monster Hunter movie, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich, is currently planned to release on September 4.

No matter what Capcom has in store for the future of the Monster Hunter franchise, particularly in regards to this mysterious new title in the works, there's no doubt that it will keep its presence as a high-grossing mainstay in the industry. Earlier this year, Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has sold at least 5 million units alone, contributing to over 62 million sales across the whole series.
