Over the past year, Capcom has tasted significant success with popular franchises, such as Street Fighter and Mega Man, spawning well-received entries. Recently, the publisher's latest release, Dragon's Dogma 2, also rolled out to massive fanfare and quickly became one of the top-grossing games of Q1 2024. Thriving on the back of consecutive hits, Capcom ultimately achieved its best-ever fiscal year in terms of game units sold.

Dragon's Dogma 2 sets one standard for the next installment, so now a sequel can focus on improving what the second game missed instead.

In an official blog post, Capcom has revealed that it posted record-breaking sales of 45.89 million game units between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024. It also collected record-high net sales of 152,410 million yen ($979.9 million USD), a 21% year-over-year increase. According to the publisher, these boosted figures are down to the success of Dragon's Dogma 2 and Street Fighter 6 as well as "promotional activities" to find new audiences. Moreover, the announcement highlighted its operating income of 57,081 million yen ($366.6 million USD) during FY2024, a 12.3% jump year-over-year.

Overall, these milestones helped Capcom achieve its seventh consecutive year of record-high profits and eleventh consecutive year of operating profit growth. For FY2025, the Japanese company's forecast predicts another record-setting period with 165,000 million yen ($1,059.9 million USD) in net sales and 64,000 million yen ($411.1 million USD) in operating income. There are chances that this forecast may rely significantly on the forthcoming Capcom game Monster Hunter Wilds, which is slated for next year.

Capcom Stands Strong in Testing Times for the Game Industry

Since 2023, the game industry has faced a series of brutal layoffs and studio shutdowns, affecting even the biggest players, such as PlayStation and Xbox. With job cuts across Sega, Gearbox, and others, coupled with the closing down of Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, and more studios, 2024 kicked off another rocky year for the industry. However, recent reports show that Capcom is faring comparatively better than many other game companies right now.

Back in March, the Dragon's Dogma developer announced a company-wide salary hike, despite Capcom employees receiving an increment a couple years ago in 2022. Now, the latest earnings report further emphasizes Capcom's impressive performance in spite of the overall industry's tremulous state. Hopefully, as the dust from the layoff wave settles down, more companies will join Capcom in making positive moves and sharing encouraging results.
