It appears Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement. Better yet, it appears that she'll be reuniting with the co-star of her last film before entering retirement, Annie. It's been confirmed that Diaz will be joining Jamie Foxx in his next movie Back in Action, which will be her first film in almost a decade.

Foxx tweeted out that Diaz had agreed to be a part of the movie while posting a recorded call between them and NFL legend Tom Brady, who had also recently retired, then un-retired, from his playing days as a quarterback. Foxx used Brady and his knowledge of un-retiring to persuade Diaz to do the same for her show business career.

Foxx wrote, "Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION - our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production starting later this year!!" This will be the third time Foxx and Diaz have worked together on a movie, as they appeared together both in Annie in 2014 and Any Given Sunday in 1999. Foxx and the studio may also be going for irony here by bringing in Diaz because of her prior retirement and the film's title being Back in Action.

Horrible Bosses filmmaker Seth Gordon has been set to direct the film. Gordon also co-wrote the script with Brendan O'Brien, who wrote the script for Neighbors. Beau Bauman of Central Intelligence is slated to produce the film while Foxx will also be among the executive producers. There's no telling if Diaz will be a lead in the film or if she will have a small cameo in it. Nonetheless, she's now confirmed to be in the film no matter what role she has in it. Diaz has plenty of experience in various comedies, so she should fit in just fine.

Honestly, good for her. If Diaz needed some time to take a breather from show business, she has every right to do so because that life isn't as glamorous as it looks. She had been a renowned movie star for pretty much two decades. She had every right to retire just as she had every right to come back if and when she felt it was time. If she feels that this is an appropriate time to come back into the limelight, then that's a sign that the script is a pretty good one.

The real question is how good will she be when she comes back? When George Lucas returned to filmmaking to make the Star Wars prequels, it was clear from those movies that he was a little rusty, to say the least. Coming back after a long hiatus is not as easy as it sounds for those in show business. Evidently, those who have worked with Diaz in the past have faith that she can still get it done after all this time off. Hopefully, bringing her in will pay off big time.

Back in Action will start production later in 2022.
