The Callisto Protocol, being directed by former Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield, is an upcoming survival horror title that many fans of the genre are keeping their eye on. Some even believe that with The Callisto Protocol and a Dead Space remake on the way, these titles could set the foundation for the future of horror gaming. From what gamers have seen so far of The Callisto Protocol, the game does look promising, building on the gory body horror created by Dead Space for a more intense and violent experience.

In each gameplay trailer for The Callisto Protocol, fans have seen how the team at Striking Distance Studios is building on the groundwork set by Dead Space, as it seeks to give the player a gorier, more horrific experience. Creatures featuring a level of body horror somewhat similar to Dead Space's Necromorphs have been spotted, except with a much more visceral level of detail. Bone, muscle tendons, and more can be seen poking out of the wandering horrors in Black Iron, the setting of The Callisto Protocol.

Some of those creatures featured in new gameplay clips of The Callisto Protocol that were recently spotted. The footage comes from an interview with Glen Schofield, where the director talks about The Callisto Protocol's origin and how the game came to be what it is today. In between footage of Schofield speaking, fans spotted a few clips they'd never seen before, showing off the intense horror that the new game will bring through combat and atmospheric environments.

The first new moment fans see shows the player being suddenly attacked by a creature and having to fight for their life. The creature immediately begins pummeling the player's helmet, again confirming that The Callisto Protocol isn't scared to brutalize its protagonist. More violence is shown as the player then takes a shotgun to their assailant. Despite there being shooting elements in The Callisto Protocol, the recent gameplay affirms that this will not be a third-person shooter, as it takes more than a few rounds to put a creature down, implying that should the player be faced with more than one enemy, they are likely looking at a gory demise.

A portion of The Callisto Protocol's melee combat was displayed in another clip where again a creature attacked the player from out of nowhere. Melee combat is a core focus in The Callisto Protocol, setting it apart from other titles in the genre. Schofield also revealed in his interview that something that sets his new title apart is a major focus on quality. With The Callisto Protocol, Schofield said the aim is to "make the best game we can. Let's try and hit all of our pillars of the game. It's got to be scary, tense - everything that we set out to do."

The Callisto Protocol releases on December 2, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
