The Callisto Protocol is the first game created by Striking Distance Studios, which was founded by Glen Schofield. Known for being one of the creators of Dead Space, Glen Schofield has returned to create a new horror game that could be considered a spiritual successor to Dead Space. It doesn't take long for players to see the influence that Dead Space had on this game, though there is no direct connection between the two.

Jacob Lee is the protagonist of TheCallisto Protocol. After crashing on Callisto, Jacob finds himself trapped and surrounded by inmates and staff of Black Iron Prison that have turned into monsters called Biophages. Prior to that though, the first chapter of The Callisto Protocol sets the scene so that the nightmare can begin.

This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Check the Cargo

Once players gain control of Jacob, the first thing they should do is walk down the hallway of the ship. Before going down to check on the cargo, be sure to check one of the rooms on the side to find Jacob's audio diary. The layout of the ship is very linear and serves as a tutorial for navigating hallways, opening doors, and how to mantle up onto ledges or over boxes.

After checking the cargo with radioactive symbols on the front, Callisto Protocol players will need to keep going and search for what is causing the alarm up on the bridge. Aside from the audio diary in Jacob's room, there are no other collectibles to be found in the first chapter.

Stowaways

As Callisto Protocol players make their way across to the other side of the cargo hold, they will come across a small fire. This unlocks the first story related achievement/trophy as Jacob and his co-pilot Max realize that they have some uninvited passengers on their ship. Carefully walk past the flames and move through the cargo hold.

While proceeding through the cargo hold, concealed by boxes and shelves, players will see Outer Way terrorists moving through the hallways of the ship. Thankfully, this is just a scripted scene. So Callisto Protocol players will not need to worry about having to sneak past enemies or any grotesque monsters, yet.

Once players reach the stairs leading back up toward the bridge, they will be prompted to sprint. Players will need to move as fast as possible to avoid getting shot by the terrorists. Upon reaching the door, a brief cinematic will play where Jacob tries to flush the invaders out by opening the airlock. This works until the door blows open and Jacob has to try and move toward the bridge while trying to avoid getting sucked out of his own ship.

Crawl Toward the Bridge

All Callisto Protocol players can do during this scene is simply crawl up toward the bridge. There are no QTEs (Quick Time Events) during this section, so players just have to keep moving, and they will eventually make it to the bridge. Despite Jacob and Max's best efforts, they are unable to keep their ship in orbit, and they crash on Callisto. To make matters worse, Jacob is soon found by security personnel of Black Iron Prison and taken into custody.

The Callisto Protocol is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
