The Callisto Protocol gives players a variety of upgrades to purchase, but there is one that should be prioritized above all others in the game. By collecting credits and visiting "Reforge" 3D printing stations, players can craft new weapons and upgrade their existing ones to give themselves a better shot at surviving in Black Iron.

In The Callisto Protocol, Jacob Lee finds himself falsely imprisoned in Black Iron, which has been overrun by a variety of incredibly powerful and grotesque monstrosities. At the start of the game, all Jacob has to defend himself is a crowbar, which he puts to good use against the monsters that relentlessly attack him throughout the prison. Luckily, it doesn't take long for Jacob to find a Stun Baton weapon to use instead, which is a great deal more durable than the crowbar.

The Stun Baton is arguably the most important weapon in the game because of The Callisto Protocol's melee-focus. With so much of The Callisto Protocol combat boiling down to close-quarters battles, it's hugely important that players spend credits upgrading the Stun Baton as soon as possible. The best upgrade that one can get for the Stun Baton is the Block Break upgrade. Players will need a total of 1,200 credits to get it. While the Block Break upgrade costs 900 credits, it requires players to purchase the Increased Velocity Alloy Stealth upgrade first, and that costs 300 credits.

The Block Break upgrade makes it so the Stun Baton will break enemy arms whenever they attempt to block a strike. The Callisto Protocol monsters tend to block fairly frequently on medium and higher difficulty settings, which can leave Jacob vulnerable to an attack if players aren't quick with the dodge button. With this upgrade, enemies will lose their arms whenever they try to block, which gives Jacob a massive advantage.

The Block Break upgrade for the Stun Baton is especially important when players get to the later stages of The Callisto Protocol, as they will often have to fight multiple enemies at once and will need all the help they can get. The Callisto Protocol has a variety of guns that players can utilize in combat as well, but players will still find themselves using melee attacks most of the time, and so they will want to invest in the Stun Baton before they spend too many credits on anything else. Players can check out the New Game+ mode when it drops next year to get any upgrades they missed in their initial playthrough.

The Callisto Protocol is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
