A Call of Duty Zombies fan created an emotional video that paid tribute to the beloved mode. The feature will reportedly be part of the next Call of Duty entry that is expected to release in late 2024.

Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War from 2008 was the first game in the popular shooter franchise to include Zombies, providing players with a new round-based survival mode that rewarded teamwork and careful planning. Since then, iterations of the Call of Duty Zombies mode have appeared in other titles in the series, including its latest entry, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. A fan of the Zombies mode has produced a touching video that looks back on the feature’s long and colorful history.

The Call of Duty franchise has plenty of challenging zombie maps that will test the survival skills of players across a variety of locations.

TikTok user dig_dug7, a Call of Duty Zombies content creator, recently shared a short video that paid homage to the beloved mode. The POV-style edit uses the television in the distinct main menu of Call of Duty: Black Ops, one of the highest rated Call of Duty games, to show an almost-Marvel-intro-style montage that features maps, characters, and images from the Zombies mode. In the video's caption, dig_dug7 said they were happy to experience Treyarch's Zombies experiences in their prime.

Aside from Call of Duty: World at War, Treyarch also developed the Zombies modes for all five games part of the Call of Duty: Black Ops series. The studio was involved in the development of the open world version of the popular mode in the franchise's latest entry, as well, but Treyarch has since stopped working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Zombies. Sledgehammer Games has since taken over the development of the newest game's remaining Zombies content.

The Future of Call of Duty Zombies

Treyarch reportedly revealed during a creator call that it shifted its focus to something exciting that was over the horizon. The studio could have diverted its attention to the next Call of Duty title, which Microsoft Gaming CEO and Xbox brand head Phil Spencer said would be released sometime in October 2024. Rumors suggested that 2024's Call of Duty will have a round-based Zombies mode, be the sixth entry in the Call of Duty: Black Ops series, and have a campaign set in the Gulf War.

Call of Duty 2024 could address a criticism of recent Zombies experiences, namely the lack of consistency in terms of seasonal content. Many Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players have voiced their frustration over the lack of Call of Duty Zombies content in the game following its launch last November. This sentiment could change, however, as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Season 4 update, which drops on May 29, will introduce a host of new content for the title’s Zombies mode.
