The immensely popular Call of Duty: Warzone recently saw the arrival of Season 4, bringing with it plenty of changes as well. For many Warzone players, the biggest announcement for Mercenaries of Fortune was the reveal of a brand new Battle Royale map, leading many players to worry that Rebirth Island could be retired to make room. However, Raven calmed those fears when it revealed the addition of a weekly map rotation system for Warzone, cycling through Rebirth Island, Fortune's Keep, and Caldera.

In addition to new game modes, weapons, and operators, one thing that hasn't changed is the Gulag known as Hold on the Caldera map. While it was made to resemble the belly of a ship, its addition during Season 3 was a controversial one due to its long and narrow design which seemingly favored camping due to limited lines of sight. Ultimately, players would simply sit and wait for the other to sprint or walk by, making the fight more frustrating than fun and intense.

However, the major issue that many faced with the Hold version of the Gulag was with the audio, which blended in with those above the map waiting and watching for their turn in the 1v1 battle below. At times, audio and footsteps have been a constant issue throughout Warzone's lifespan, but in this case, the added noise and footsteps served as a distraction and made it very difficult, if not impossible, to hear the enemy player and their movements. Although it took an entire season, Raven has finally dealt with the frustrating issue.

In the patch notes for Call of Duty: Warzone's Mercenaries of Fortune season, spectators watching the match above the fight will now have muted footsteps, clearing the audio so that players participating in the 1v1 match will only hear the enemy. The change should significantly improve the overall experience and assist those trying to win back a spot on Caldera.

While players have already praised the update, some have even suggested Raven is now in the process of tuning or testing potential features ahead of the anticipated launch of Call of Duty: Warzone 2. While details remain slim, Activision has revealed a few new details on the experience as well as a few rumors and leaks attempting to fill in the rest of the gaps. As many assumed, what is confirmed is that cosmetics, gear, and even progression will not transfer to the new Warzone experience, as Activision considers it a new and separate game. Thankfully, Warzone 1 won't be removed or replaced, so players will be able to return to it when they want.

Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard are currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
