Call of Duty: Warzone, much like the mainline entries in the series, features a prestige leveling system. However, Call of Duty: Warzone fans have been quite down on the approach the game takes to player progression, making some recent comments from Raven Software promising.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s prestige system is shared across all the modern titles, allowing gamers to level up regardless of the game that they are choosing to play. While this sounds excellent on paper, there are downsides to the format, such as the segmented prestiging caused by the seasonal style. Every season, players will get access to three or four prestiges, with gamers needing to play constantly to prestige. With no endgame in sight, many fans miss the old style of a final level to grind toward.

With games like Deep Rock Galactic handling prestige-like systems better, it could not be any more apparent that change is needed. Fortunately, Raven Software seems to agree with the Call of Duty community’s criticisms about prestiging, as developers from the studio responded to FaZe Swagg’s criticism in a recent Q&A. According to the streamer, “there’s no reason to want to level up” since prestiges keep coming and there is no end goal to reach, with gamers needing to wait for a new Season to start before they can keep leveling up.

cold war prestige ranks

According to Raven Software, this criticism is “totally fair,” with the developer admitting that the live service style of the new prestige system has damaged gamers’ interest in going through the ranks. While the developer does point out that prestiging is less intimidating now since everyone is “at the same starting point” when ranks get reset at the start of a Season, Raven admits that “the value of leveling kind of loses meaning.” Fortunately, gamers could soon have interest in prestiging again.

While no details were provided as to how Call of Duty’s Prestige system will be adjusted, Raven did tell FaZe Swagg that “a revision is the best way to describe it.” No information was provided on when these changes will be coming, either, as “in the future” was all that the developer was willing to reveal. With Call of Duty: Warzone 2 in the works, though, its release could mark the debut of the updated prestige system. With the system being “revised” and not scrapped, the changes will likely apply to all active Call of Duty games.

With the FaZe Swagg Q&A also featuring discussion of a Call of Duty: Warzone console FOV slider, fans have received a lot of interesting info in recent days. With a makeover for the prestige mode coming soon, fans should have one less issue with Call of Duty: Warzone and the games it is integrated with.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
