There is no denying how popular and successful the Call of Duty franchise is. Despite both Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War routinely facing criticism from regular players, professional players, and Twitch streamers, the games continue to be regularly played and have made Activision an almost unimaginable amount of money. And in case there are any doubters, Activision has shared some mind-boggling statistics that only further prove that the series won't be going anywhere any time soon.

Firstly, Call of Duty: Warzone has passed 100 million players worldwide, just ahead of Season 3. Activision also posted some additional stats showing how much has been done in Warzone since it launched in early 2020. Over 28 billion matches have been played and over 26 billion parachutes have been deployed from players jumping into Verdansk. Apparently, that many parachutes is enough to cover Verdansk itself 136,442 times. Also, over 8 billion players have been revived by their teammates, which is more than the population of the entire planet.

The other major milestone concerns the entire Call of Duty series itself. According to Activision, premium game sales have surpassed 400 million. This includes every Call of Duty game sold since the very first game from 2003 up to the most recent, Black Ops Cold War. It's a number that's only going to increase later in the year when the next entry in the series launches.

While Activision itself has yet to share any official information, various leaks and rumors point to it being another World War 2 game developed by Sledgehammer, which has so far only supported development on the 2019 Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War, and hasn't made a Call of Duty title of its own since 2017's Call of Duty: WWII. It's also expected that it will be integrated with Warzone and one leaker claims that it will still release on last-gen consoles, namely the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

As for Warzone, with it only being out for over a year now, Activision has assured that it has plans to support the battle-royale for a few more years, which likely means that all future Call of Duty games will be integrated with it as well. It's next season is expected to be a big one, as it has long been rumored and theorized that Activision will be nuking the Verdansk map, though the exact specifics remain a mystery.
