Evidence mounts for a major Call of Duty: Warzone theory that could both lead to a massive change in the battle royale game and result in something even bigger. Tagged as the Warzone "Nuke Theory," players have been speculating about a nuclear weapon being launched in-game for some time. The nuke's explosion leading directly into the release of a new Warzone map and also the announcement of Call of Duty 2020. With Season 4 of Warzone now begun, the Nuke Theory doesn't just seem real, it seems ready to happen soon.

In Season 3, Call of Duty: Warzone players were able to fully explore Bunker 11 and discover the construction of a nuclear missile, including a nuclear warhead. Season 4's addition takes a massive step forward. In the community's latest discovery, a fully built nuclear weapon has been discovered in Bunker 10.

The Nuke Theory doesn't just end with the revelation of a nuclear missile, of course. The Nuke Theory says that the nuclear missile will launch and will land within the Warzone map area. The explosion would not only render the map area unlivable, but would serve a meaningful story event going forward. This story event would serve as the catalyst for the start of Call of Duty 2020, expected to be titled Call of Duty: Black Ops.

As for when the next event in Warzone could happen, whether it be a nuclear launch, a nuclear explosion, or otherwise, no one knows. But it does seem likely, if not certain, that it'll happen relatively soon. Seasons in Warzone are planned to last around 8 weeks, though they often stretch longer. This nuclear live event could happen mid-season or it could happen at the season's end. It's possible that it could stretch into the next season, but Activision probably doesn't want to wait that long to announce Call of Duty 2020.

The end of Season 4 seems like the most likely time for the event. After all, it's likely to be tied into Warzone's map switching as well. Warzone has been teasing a new map named Urzikstan with the release of Season 4. Map changes happen at the end of seasons, not mid-season, so the start of Season 5 makes the most sense.

Of course, the Nuke Theory could be a red herring. Perhaps something else entirely is planned to happen between now and Season 5 in Warzone. A twist would certainly be a lot of fun. That said, a Call of Duty 2020 announcement is coming sometime soon, a new map is coming sometime soon, and this in-game nuclear missile plot will be resolved sometime soon as well. Those things are all likely intertwined, but as for how, Call of Duty fans will just have to wait and see.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
