The contamination levels in Call of Duty: Warzone have been rising steadily over the past several weeks, and they have finally reached 100%. Players that have hopped into a match since that occurred may have noticed that there is a new skull icon at the top-right corner of their screens, and its meaning may not be immediately obvious. For those fans that are want to know more about this icon in Call of Duty: Warzone, this guide contains full details.

To get right to it, the number next to the new skull icon indicates how many player-controlled zombies are roaming around CoD: Warzone's map. Indeed, it is now possible for fans to transform into the living dead, and players can keep tabs on just how infested Verdansk has become by looking to this icon. While that information may not always be extremely useful, it will at least give fans a slightly better sense of the state of their matches.

If a Call of Duty: Warzone player is interested in contributing to the count that is displayed next to the new skull icon, then they simply need to die in the radiation zones that appear as red circles on the map. Currently, these zones can be found at Shipwreck and Prison, and fans that expire at one of these locations will come back as zombies. Notably, at least one squad member needs to remain alive for this to work, and it thus not possible to turn into a zombie when playing solo.

When it comes to playing as a zombie, they control as they did during the CoD: Warzone Haunting of Verdansk event that took place in October of last year. This means that zombies once again have Charged Jump, Gas Grenade, and EMP Blast at their disposal, and the locations of their enemies are also always highlighted. Furthermore, zombies are unaffected by the gas clouds that are currently appearing across Verdansk, giving them a unique advantage.

One final thing to mention is that a skull icon and player-controlled zombies are not the only things that were added to the game when the contamination levels hit 100%, as there is also a new weapon to obtain. That weapon is Call of Duty: Warzone's Sykov pistol, and it appears to pack quite a punch. For those fans that want to unlock this new gun, that is as simple as getting four kills while using pistols in five different matches.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
