While Call of Duty: Warzone is all about the guns at its heart, there are plenty of different ways to take down enemies. Explosives, vehicles, and melee weapons all provide different options for winning games. One of these has been the source of controversy among players before, and it looks like it is rearing its head once again. Call of Duty: Warzone players have been discussing how melee is overpowered and exactly why they feel that way.

Melee has become a staple of Call of Duty strategy. What started as punching an enemy when panicked eventually became a contest for big and bad melee weapons. Call of Duty games have seen bats, crowbars, swords, and even a robotic arm at one point. These give players an alternate way to play the game, allowing them to run around and smack anything that moves rather than duck behind cover to reload.

Players seem to have less of an issue with melee being an option and more of an issue with how much faster melee can kill enemies when compared to other items. Call of Duty players have many interesting ways to win a match, but most of them make sense. Squishing someone with a helicopter or shooting them in the head once or twice should kill them, but hitting someone twice with a bat or slapping them two or three times with a robotic arm shouldn’t kill them if a Semtex grenade to the chest doesn't.

Punching someone three times likely wouldn’t kill them in real life, but it does in a video game with trained soldiers. Many gamers keep bringing up the hope that maybe the next Call of Duty will be better, making melee weapons and melee, in general, a bit more realistic and balanced when compared to the other methods of eliminating targets. In a game about guns, it is strange to see the best weapons be swords and crowbars.

Glitches and connection errors make this issue even worse. Players teleporting across the Call of Duty: Warzone map are much harder to shoot with a gun. Meanwhile, a player wielding a knife can take down enemies with more ease when bugs don’t allow them to be shot. It is sadly just a strange combination of gameplay and glitches that sometimes come together to ruin some players’ games.

With new Call of Duty: Warzone weapons being found all the time, in addition to those that are released in the content updates, there is always something new for players to try. Perhaps if the guns and grenades start dealing more damage, they will seem the more viable option when compared to melee weapons.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
