Change is on the horizon for Call of Duty: Vanguard with Season 4 on the horizon. Activision gave fans a breakdown of everything coming in the new season, known as Mercenaries of Fortune, including new Vanguard multiplayer maps like USS Texas 1945, a round based zombies mode set on Shi No Numa, and a variety of new operators, weapons, and game modes to check out. Naturally, season 4 also contains new bundles for those who want to spend a bit of real money.

However, Season 4 arguably brings some of the biggest changes to Call of Duty: Warzone. Maps have always been a major component to this experience and fans have certainly had differing opinions when moving from Verdansk to Verdansk 84, and more recently to the completely different Caldera. With Mercenaries of Fortune, Warzone is getting another brand-new map created by High Moon Studios called Fortune's Keep.

Interestingly enough, the initial reveal worried fans that Rebirth Island would be retired in favor of Fortune's Keep. However, Raven Software went on to confirm that Warzone isn't losing any maps and instead will be rotating through them. Players will be seeing Fortune's Keep, Rebirth Island, and Caldera and a selection of game modes like Golden Plunder rotate through a weekly playlist, which will begin in full starting on June 30. The first week of the season will only feature Caldera and Fortune's Keep.

This is the first time Call of Duty: Warzone will be rotating through a selection of maps. In fact, the final week of Season 4 adds another twist in that at 10am PT every day, the playlist will swap between Fortune's Keep and Rebirth Island. The move seemingly follows in the footsteps of Apex Legends, another rival Battle Royale experience where public matches sees a rotation between three maps every 60-90 minutes.

In addition to a new map rotation playlist, work is being done on Caldera to address some of the criticisms fans have mentioned since it launched. One of the bigger issues players have had is the visibility and how poor it can be due to the large amounts of vegetation. To improve this, Raven is removing 50% of the total vegetation around Caldera, while also adjusting numerous points of interest to further improve the gameplay experience. While the cleared sight lines are a story component this season due to Mercenaries moving into Caldera, though it should also make for an improved experience and making it easier to see dropped loot and prone enemies.

Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard are currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
