A new season of Call of Duty: Warzone brings a great deal of hype for the player base, but with it usually comes a headache or two. For every new thing added to the game, something else tends to break, or become exploitable, leading to frustration. The new helicopters were already removed from Warzone to address an invisibility glitch, and developer Raven Software has announced another update for today, December 18, set to go live soon.

This new season comes with the integration of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a massive undertaking for the developers involved. Keeping Warzone in the Modern Warfare engine while bringing in a slew of content from Black Ops Cold War was always going to be a challenge. Early reports indicate that Warzone players aren't thrilled with the Cold War weapons, something likely to be addressed in the near future to adjust the balance. For now, work is being done on quality of life for players.

The patch notes for the December 18 update coming from Raven Software indicate that the issue with XP tokens in Warzone not carrying over from previous seasons has been dealt with. Players will once again have access to their unused tokens for use in either Modern Warfare multiplayer or Warzone. If players have unused tokens from previous seasons, they cannot be used in Cold War multiplayer and any newly earned tokens cannot be used in Modern Warfare multiplayer. This is the largest issue being addressed in this smaller Warzone update, with the rest of the changes as follows:

  • Selecting "Randomize All" option for emblems should work as intended
  • Seasonal Progression Challenges will now show correct preview images
  • Hid a base Weapon Challenge that should not have been available yet
  • Fixed some issues when redeeming Store bundles
  • Various weapon adjustments

Out of these, "various weapon adjustments" is the most vague but could have the most impact on the game, depending on what exactly is being adjusted. It will likely take a little while for folks to figure out which guns are affected by this change, and if it makes them viable or nerfs them. In a few days, content creators will post their findings, like Nickmercs did for underrated SMGs in Warzone.

The rest of the items on the patch notes are certainly quality of life tweaks to smooth menu-related issues. Perhaps not the big fix for something like the invisibility glitch, but clean-up work to give the game a bit of polish after a rocky first week of Black Ops Cold War integration. Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War are such different games, that this merging of worlds was always going to be a challenge. With a few more updates, Warzone should find the right balance between the two.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
