Highlights

  • An SMG called the BAS-P has become highly effective in Call of Duty: Warzone Season 6 due to buffs to its damage multipliers.
  • The BAS-P has become a popular choice for short-range engagements, surpassing the previously dominant Lachmann Sub.
  • The release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may bring further changes to the weapon sandbox and the SMG meta in Warzone.

The weapon sandbox in Call of Duty: Warzone is fluid season to season thanks to various buffs and nerfs that come with them, and one SMG is standing head-and-shoulders above the rest after the Season 6 update. Season 6 of Warzone looks to be the final season before the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with plenty of new weapon blueprints for players to earn. However, it appears the weapon which is benefiting the most is an SMG players have been able to unlock since the launch of Modern Warfare 2 in November 2022.

Front-and-center in Season 6 of Call of Duty: Warzone is the addition of Al Simmons, better known as Spawn, as the centerpiece operator available to unlock in the season's battle pass. In addition, several of the new operator skins inspired by characters from Todd McFarlane's long-running comic series such as Violator, one in his clown form and one in his demon form. Three new weapons are available to unlock, as well, including a new SMG to take advantage of the seasonal update's SMG buff.

The SMG which appears to benefiting the most after the seasonal update, though, is the BAS-P, a weapon available since Modern Warfare 2's release which has caught the eye of many players since the new season began. Warzone player and content creator JGOD is one such player singing the BAS-P's praises for Season 6, saying the weapon has become a monster and easy go-to for short-range engagements. He pointed to the buff to neck, limb, and torso damage multipliers as the reason for this as it has a time-to-kill of 598 milliseconds per second.

Previously, the Lachmann Sub had been seen as the undisputed king of SMGs inside Warzone due to its high-damage output at short-ranges. Players speculated heading into Season 6 that the weapon could find itself victim to a nerf due to how dominant it had been in the weapon sandbox, especially during Season 5. However, Infinity Ward instead chose to leave the weapon as it was and buff five other SMGs, one of them being the BAS-P, to offer alternatives to the Lachmann Sub.

The question now becomes if there will be more shakeups to the weapon sandbox after the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 10, 2023. It marks the first time since Warzone launched that there won't be a seasonal reset with the release of a new Call of Duty title due, in part, to Modern Warfare 3 being a direct sequel to 2022's Modern Warfare 2. That said, players can argue the game's release will bring its own weapon updates with it, which could further change to Warzone's SMG meta.

Call of Duty: Warzone is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
