Infinity Ward and Raven Software's Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has had an interesting time since its launch. The Call of Duty series has experimented with different developers, formats, and settings over the decades, and some have worked better than others. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 takes the franchise formula and brings it into a free-to-play battle royale format, and although it's had an impressive player count in the past, recently gamers have been abandoning it in favor of other similar battle royales that might offer more. However, the new seasonal content might be the ticket to enticing people back if Call of Duty: Warzone 2 plays its cards right.

Initially, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was concerned with creating something new and taking things in a fresh direction with features like its 2v2 Gulags, but when Season 2 was announced it seemed like the game was scaling these back a bit. As with consistent rollouts of content, fans expect changes for the better as well as new features. Fortunately, in addition to adding some elements, it seems like Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is looking back at previous games for inspiration and reintroducing older modes like Plunder in its future seasons. This could work well, but only if Call of Duty: Warzone 2 elevates this mode and keeps moving forward.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has given fans lots of new things to enjoy, like new maps and mechanics that have freshened up the format compared to its previous iteration. Some of these have worked really well and some have felt a little lacking, but overall Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has been received well by players. A couple of the most recent season's changes have been met with mixed reviews, but the upcoming return of fan-favorite Plunder is a smart move by Infinity Ward and Raven Software. There are a ton of free-to-play battle royales on the market right now, so Call of Duty: Warzone 2 needs to stand out, and this includes improving on its previous modes if they're coming back around.

Fans first experienced Plunder in the original Call of Duty: Warzone, and while it has similarities to some other classic battle royale modes, it brings a few of its own unique twists. Working within a thirty-minute deadline, players must race to amass one million in cash. They can do this by raiding supply boxes, completing contracts, and finding special cash drops that pop up across the map. Gamers also have to protect their own stashes and avoid sticky-fingered opponents, which they can do by depositing their funds at a Cash Deposit Balloon.

What Warzone 2 Needs To Focus On In Plunder

Plunder was a fun mode that brought something a little different from the typical focus on taking down other players. In a battle royale, the ones that mix it up are usually the most successful, as they help their game stand out from the very packed crowd of similar titles. Although Plunder isn't new to Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 needs to make sure it's finessing it and bringing something players haven't seen before in addition to the aspects they loved in the first place. The original Plunder had lots of different ways to earn money, and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 needs to make sure it's also giving gamers options and flexibility to allow them to win in a plethora of different ways.

After Plunder debuted, it then introduced different twists like Blood Money and Golden Plunder, which added variations to the base mode. As long as the Plunder mode in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is slick, functional, and fun, adding in new twists can only improve it as players get used to the initial mode and then get brand-new dimensions as other elements are introduced. The developer needs to focus on how to make Plunder competitive and challenging, building in ways that allows fortunes to flip and ensuring that no team is safe, with their carefully hoarded stash vulnerable until the very end.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X
