The community response to Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has been all over the place, with the big Season 2 update aiming to address some of the criticism that the community has. DMZ is one aspect of the game that has come under fire for a few reasons, but thankfully Season 2 seems to be taking the mode in a good direction. While some are still coming to terms with the idea of a DMZ reset, many are excited about the changes to missions.

With missions being the main reason to keep playing DMZ, as they provide exclusive rewards for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players while giving them a sense of progression, the plan to make them more fair on players is a good one. Beyond that, though, some of the new missions in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Season 2 are set to shake things up in a big way, as they will see players working on one long quest across several maps. This style could work perfectly for Treyarch’s Zombies mode once it makes its return in 2024.

What Multi-Map Challenges and Quests Could Look Like in CoD Zombies

The idea of challenges being connected across several maps is interesting, and could prove to be a lot of fun for Zombies fans. For instance, by taking after DMZ and its new multi-map tasks, Zombies fans could be given some tough new Calling Cards challenges to complete. While there may be a few ways to go about multi-map Calling Card challenges, ones tied to the mode's main quests make the most sense.

Longtime fans of Call of Duty Zombies will know that nearly every Treyarch map since Ascension has had a main quest Easter egg, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. These Easter eggs can be tough to complete and usually require a guide for certain steps, but with interesting story content, unique boss fights, and fresh mechanics featured within, many love to engage with them. Previously, players could get Calling Cards for finishing each main quest once or completing all the quests available in a game's Zombies mode. By borrowing DMZ’s multi-map challenge approach, Treyarch could get more creative.

Thanks to this new tracking system, players could have a Calling Card challenge that asks them to complete several main quest Easter eggs in one play session. Additionally, players could get a rare Calling Card for completing two or more main quests in a row without ever going down. Considering how hard certain Easter eggs are, like the first main quest in Outbreak, these Calling Cards could be something that players are truly proud to display.

With this kind of tracking system in place, and maybe even an inventory system like DMZ that allows Zombies fans to carry items between maps, proper cross-map Easter eggs could become a reality. Though this has technically been done before through Super Easter eggs, or in Black Ops 1 Zombies where players needed to use items from previous quests on Moon, Treyarch could take things to the next level. Players could find an item on the first Call of Duty 2024 Zombies map that unlocks a hidden area in the third map, which shows players where to go on the game’s second map for a reward. Having side Easter eggs that span multiple maps could be new for Zombies, and they could provide exciting rewards that make the hunts worth the effort.

Forgotten Call of Duty Zombies mechanics like the NAV cards from Black Ops 2 or the hidden rooms from Black Ops 4 show that Treyarch has wanted to feature multi-map quests in the past. Thanks to this new DMZ mission system, it may finally be able to deliver on that promise. Not only could daily missions become more interesting by sending players to different maps, but more demanding Calling Card challenges could also be delivered. Most importantly, the side quests that the CoD Zombies community loves could become more ambitious, as players could set something up on one map that only pays off once they load into another. Though there is no guarantee Treyarch will embrace the idea, it certainly has potential.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
