While DMZ remains in Beta, the mode continues to show promise with a healthy player base, positive feedback from the community, and consistent updates from the developers. Many of the updates are exclusive to DMZ and not just mirrored from Warzone 2.0 further separating the modes.

Even with the similarities DMZ shares with Warzone 2.0, the mode has shown to have its own meta at times and is often praised for allowing more variety of weapons to be viable. This is in large part due to players having to account for AI that will unavoidably be engaged during each infil. With so many things to consider across the maps of Al Mazrah, Ashika Island, and Building 21, let's take a look at some of the best options to infil with.

6 TAQ-56

Based on the popular gun model of FN SCAR-L, the TAQ-56 is an extremely versatile and consistent weapon across all modes and game types in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2...especially DMZ. The consistency comes from the gun's very manageable recoil with very little attachment investment and good damage at medium to long range.

Due to the gun's strength, there is a lot of flexibility with attachments, especially with optics which are not required whatsoever. Operators also have a plethora of choices when it comes to muzzle's and rear grips which can either be tuned for recoil control to make the gun very stable or mobility for a more aggressive play style. Whether it's against the many tiers of AI or other operators the TAQ-56 performs to such a consistently high level it's well worth any players insured slot.

5 Victus XMR

While the Signal 50 might have a faster "time to kill" and the SP-X 80 recently coming into prominence in the Warzone 2.0 meta, the Victus XMR remains a contender for the best sniper in the game. With a gun model based on the popular Accuracy International AW50, it's no wonder players are drawn to this iconic weapon regardless of game mode.

While the gun has a fairly high skill curve, many of these can be worked around thanks to attachments such as the Raptor-FVM40 which is the only optic with a bullet drop indicator. The sniper is also phenomenal against tier 3 AI, even being able to one-shot with ease. This one-shot extends to even operators as long as said operator doesn't have a full 3-play vest equipped.

4 BAS-P

50 Round Drum

Rear Grip

D37 Grip (⇅-0.58 ⇄-0.45)

After the Fennec 45 nerf many players looked to other SMGs to fill a similar close-range role. However, a weapon that has consistently been slept on and has arguably got better with time is the BAS-P. Based on the real-life gun known as the SIG MPX, many might have not realized the potential of the weapon due to its low usage across much of Warzone 2.0 and DMZ.

Those that give the weapon a try will find it to be one of the most stable and consistent SMGs in the game. Operators won't have to invest much into recoil control to hit the sweet spot and can even opt out of using an optic if the iron sights aren't too intrusive. What might be the most surprising aspect of the gun is how incredible it performs against tier 3 AI which are notoriously annoying and aggressive.

3 Tempus Torrent

Since the game's launch, Marksmen Rifles haven't been widely regarded as good in Warzone 2.0 or DMZ, but that seemingly changed overnight when Season 2 added the Tempus Torrent which was quickly discovered to be a very viable option. Based on the gun model for the SR-25, the Tempus Torrent sports high damage and manageable recoil even in full auto mode which is surprising for a weapon of this archetype.

While a good amount of tuning does need to go into aiming stability and recoil control to ensure shots will hit their target, once an operator finds a rhythm with the gun there is no stopping them. Thanks to its archetype the gun is dangerous at long-range and can quickly break any operator's plates at medium range making the gun extremely competitive against Assault Rifles.

2 RPK

RPK DMZ Build

Muzzle

ZLR Talon 5 (⇅+1.40 ⇄+1.00)

Optic

Aim OP-V4 (⇅-2.90 ⇄+0.99)

Underbarrel

FTAC Ripper 56 (⇅+0.80 ⇄+0.40)

Ammunition

7.62 High Velocity (⇅+0.70 ⇄+9.00)

Rear Grip

Demo-X2 Grip (⇅+1.00 ⇄+0.45)

There is a saying that states "the stats don't tell the whole story" and nowhere is that more true than for the RPK. Despite no longer being the king of DMZ and Warzone 2.0 the gun remains incredibly consistent and versatile with little tuning required. It also has the upside of being the most accessible gun in DMZ thanks to the tier 1 and 2 AI constantly using it making ammo plentiful as well.

Thanks to the RPK's well-balanced stats operators have a ton of options regarding attachments and play styles. Unlike the other LMGs, which almost require one or two specific attachments in certain slots, the RPK only really requires the 7.62 High Velocity ammunition to combat its low bullet velocity stat. Outside of that the gun continues to be a jack of all trades which for many is an easy pick for an insured slot.

1 KV Broadside

KV Broadside DMZ Build

VLK Stockless

Ammunition

12 Gauge Dragon's Breath

Magazine

25 Shell Drum

Rear Grip

True-TAC Grip (⇅-0.56 ⇄-0.23)

It isn't really recommended to infil with a shotgun to Al Mazrah, but there is a lot more potential for close-range engagements on Ashika Island and especially in Building 21. So it only makes sense to bring the best shotgun that continues to the KV Broadside.

Despite the nerf to the 12 Gauge Dragon's Breath ammunition attachment, it is still a worthwhile choice as it handles all tiers of AI very well and is a nuisance to operators as it obscures vision while causing a great deal of flinch. If a player chooses not to use the attachment the gun is still unmatched will how much damage it can output thanks to its rate of fire making it still the best option.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 are out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
