Highlights

  • Call of Duty's Warhammer crossover is particularly deep, introducing multiple themed bundles with detailed skins, new cosmetics, and a special game mode.
  • The potential for a full-on Call of Duty Warhammer game exists, offering a unique contrast to the franchise's realistic modern settings.
  • Space marines and gritty themes fit Call of Duty surprisingly well, and even though the sci-fi-focused Infinite Warfare was not received well by fans, it should not prevent Activision from attempting a Warhammer-like spin-off.

Call of Duty has had a rather bizarre history with crossovers in the last few years. While the franchise has dabbled with crossovers long before Call of Duty: Warzone, it was the battle royale's debut that really ushered in a new age of pop-culture collaborations for the series, though it began with some rather odd partnerships, bringing skins based on decades-old series like Die Hard and Donnie Darko.

But as time has gone on, Call of Duty has shifted its collaborations to be a bit more relevant to the modern age of entertainment. The Boys, The Umbrella Academy, Godzilla x Kong, and The Walking Dead have all collaborated with Call of Duty, bringing some new Operator skins to the game along with some other themed cosmetic items such as weapon blueprints, emblems, and bullet tracers. But the latest Call of Duty crossover is a bit more substantial than those that have come before it, and it could even pave the way for a very different type of Call of Duty in the near future.

Call of Duty's Warhammer Crossover Could Pave the Way for a New Sci-Fi Entry

Call of Duty's Warhammer Crossover Is Far More Than Just Some Skins

In the past, Call of Duty's crossovers have often brought one or two skins to the game, along with some extra cosmetics, some weapon blueprints, and a finishing move or two, all of which are usually available in one big bundle. The latest Call of Duty x Warhammer crossover, however, takes things much further. Rather than just one bundle, Call of Duty is releasing three separate Warhammer-themed crossover bundles, all consisting of multiple skins and a plethora of additional cosmetics.

Named the Space Marines Tracer Pack, the Sisters of Battle Tracer Pack, and the Astra Militarum Tracer Pack, these bundles contain at least one skin based on their respective Warhammer 40K faction, with the Space Marines pack getting a Space Marine Scout-themed operator and so forth. But these bundles are so much more than first meets the eye. Along with incredibly detailed and authentic skins, these Call of Duty x Warhammer packs come with a slew of extra cosmetics that give players' arsenal a full grim-dark overhaul, turning weapons like the Sidewinder and Haymaker into Bolters, along with new dismemberment death effects that can quickly turn an average match into a gorefest.

This Call of Duty x Warhammer crossover also adds a limited-time Juggermosh game mode in which the juggernauts are given a Space Marine makeover, acting as a very nice integration of both properties, being in keeping with Warhammer 40K lore.

A Warhammer-Like Call of Duty Game Has a Lot of Potential

But this should only be the start of Call of Duty's Warhammer collaboration. Though seeing a Space Marine run around Call of Duty's realistic modern-day maps might seem a little jarring, the actual look of the skins - both in first-person and third-person - feel right in Call of Duty, and paired with the game's new gore effects, it might have fans asking for a Call of Duty Warhammer game.

While a direct Call of DutyWarhammer first-person shooter is probably out of the realm of possibility, at least for now, it doesn't mean that Call of Duty couldn't forge its own grim-dark Sci-Fi adventure. Though Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was panned by many critics and fans, its reception shouldn't stop Call of Duty from making another Sci-Fi game. Warhammer's darker tone, oppressive atmosphere, and gore-filled visuals could be the perfect blueprint for a brand-new type of Call of Duty Sci-Fi game, one that isn't afraid to really push the boat out and experiment with some truly grim themes.
