Debuting all the way back in 2006, The Boys was originally a comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson that run until 2012. But while The Boys comic series was certainly treasured by many comic readers, it only really hit the mainstream thanks to Amazon's live-action adaptation that first debuted in 2019. And after enjoying several years of extreme success, The Boys is now one of the most popular superhero properties out there, even being sought out by the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone.
For the last few years, Call of Duty: Warzone has been enjoying its position at the top of the live-service pyramid, sitting comfortably right alongside Fortnite and Apex Legends. And while the Call of Duty brand is more than enough of a draw on its own, Warzone hasn't been afraid to bring in some collaborations. Some of these crossovers make complete sense, collaborating with an IP that's in the current zeitgeist, but some of these crossovers are clearly just passion projects for those involved, using characters from decades ago that are still iconic, but not exactly relevant. Call of Duty: Warzone's latest crossover seems like a perfect blend of both, with The Boys getting plenty of time in the spotlight. And if all goes well, this could be just the beginning of superhero crossovers in Call of Duty: Warzone.
Call of Duty's The Boys Crossover Could Just Be The Start
Call of Duty: Warzone has had a good handful of crossovers over the last few years. Warzone has brought skins based on Rambo, Die Hard, Donnie Darko, Attack on Titan, Godzilla vs Kong, and a few more to the battle royale, and while the vast majority of these skins are very high quality, they're not the most relevant crossovers. Warzone has also never really included any superhero collaboration skins, which is a little bit odd considering just how popular the genre is nowadays. The closest Warzone has got to a superhero crossover is its Umbrella Academy crossover, though none of the Academy themselves were represented.
But times are changing, and Call of Duty: Warzone has just received its very first superhero collaboration. Rolling out individually over the course of the next week, Call of Duty: Warzone's The Boys crossover includes three skins based on the characters Starlight, Homelander, and Black Noir, along with several unique weapon blueprints each, a unique finishing move, a weapon charm and sticker, an emblem, and a loading screen.
But Call of Duty: Warzone's The Boys crossover goes far beyond just a few new skins and cosmetic options. Landing right alongside Call of Duty: Warzone 2's Season 4 Reloaded update, The Boys crossover adds superpowers to the battle royale for a limited time. Upon finding a vial of Temp V, players will gain access to one of four superpowers, including a Charge Jump, Electric Shockwave, Laser Vision, and Teleport. These powers act as Field Upgrades, but after using the power once, players won't lose them, but instead keep them for the duration of the match.
This crossover shows that Call of Duty: Warzone isn't afraid of larger-scale collaborations that go beyond just offering a skin or two, and this could just be the start of superhero crossovers in Call of Duty: Warzone. The most likely superhero franchise to collab with Warzone after The Boys is probably Invincible, with it being another Amazon show that has plenty of adult themes and visuals. This crossover would be even more likely if the rumors are true, and Omni-Man comes to Mortal Kombat 1 as a guest character. While Marvel and DC tend to stick to more family-friendly crossovers like Fortnite, there are certain characters that would definitely fit Warzone's more violent content, such as Deadpool or Wolverine for Marvel, and Batman or Joker for DC.
