  • Despite fan disapproval of high in-game purchase prices, Call of Duty's revenue remains high for Activision.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players are being issued partial refunds after purchasing a wildly expensive $34 weapon bundle. The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 bundle has since been adjusted to a lower price.

Call of Duty regularly adds new bundles for players to purchase through the in-game store, which usually include a combination of weapon blueprints, skins, and other cosmetic items. While this money-making tactic is seen throughout the gaming industry and is a mostly accepted practice at this point, fans still grow frustrated with Call of Duty on occasion. Recently, a Modern Warfare 3 bundle made some Zombies fans upset by charging $24 for items that many didn't feel were worth the price. It seems that Call of Duty fans have another reason to be surprised by the franchise's in-game purchases.

For a short time on February 18, Call of Duty's in-game store featured the Gassed Up bundle for 3,400 COD Points (about $34), the highest-ever price for a Call of Duty bundle. Fans were shocked and frustrated by the steep price increase, noting that the popular Helldivers 2 could be bought for almost the same amount. Fortunately, it seems that the new price was simply an error, as Call of Duty has since reduced the bundle to 2,400 COD Points, the usual price for such an offering. Activision stated that any user who purchased the bundle for 3,400 COD Points will be refunded 1,000 COD Points. The Gassed Up bundle, which is still available, features three weapon blueprints with tracers, other cosmetics, and XP tokens.

Items Included in Call of Duty's Gassed Up Bundle

  • WSP-9 Gassed Up blueprint
  • WSP Stinger Gassed Up blueprint
  • WSP Swarm Gassed Up blueprint
  • Toxic Touch decal
  • Deliquesce sticker
  • Shotgunned charm
  • Masked Up emblem
  • 1 hour double XP token
  • 1 hour double weapon XP token
  • 1 hour double battle pass XP token

Despite the bundle's reduction to the usual 2,400 COD Points, many fans still expressed their disapproval at Call of Duty's steep pricing for its in-game purchases. However, it seems unlikely that this will change anytime soon, as Call of Duty generates tons of money for Activision, thanks in part to the bundles sold in the in-game store.

Recently, Call of Duty fans also grew frustrated with Modern Warfare 3's Rick Grimes skin. The skin is included with Call of Duty's newest battle pass, and while fans were excited for one of The Walking Dead's most iconic characters to be added to the game, some felt let down by what they thought to be subpar voice acting.

However, there was also some positive Call of Duty news recently after leaks revealed a Warhammer 40K crossover, which is still unannounced. It seems that the potential crossover will feature Warhammer 40K's Space Marines and possibly a unique game mode.
