Highlights

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will feature content from previous Call of Duty games, including multiplayer maps and cosmetics from Modern Warfare 2 and potentially guns from Advanced Warfare.
  • Advanced Warfare, the first game developed by the lead studio on Modern Warfare 3, introduced futuristic elements to the franchise, which influenced subsequent Call of Duty games until the reboot in 2019.
  • If the leaks are true, other classic Call of Duty games may also be featured in Modern Warfare 3's post-launch seasons, with about six seasons expected before the release of the 2024 Call of Duty game.

According to recent leaks, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may feature a crossover with 2014's Advanced Warfare. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to launch on November 10, bringing with it 16 multiplayer maps that were all taken from the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's big theme is that it's carrying over content from previous Call of Duty games. Joining the maps from the 2009 MW2 game are almost all the cosmetics and unlocks from the 2022 Modern Warfare 2 game. Leakers believe that this theme will continue in Modern Warfare 3's post-launch seasons, with each season apparently themed after a classic Call of Duty game and introducing content from those games.

It's been claimed that one of the games to be featured in Modern Warfare 3's post-launch seasons will be 2014's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Advanced Warfare was the first Call of Duty game developed by Sledgehammer Games, the lead studio on Modern Warfare 3, so it makes sense to give it the spotlight in MW3 if the rumors about its seasonal content are true. According to the leaks, Advanced Warfare fans can look forward to popular guns from that game making their way into MW3, with the ASM1, BAL27, EM1, and MORS specifically mentioned.

Advanced Warfare is an interesting entry in the Call of Duty franchise. At the time of its release, it was generally received as a step-up from the divisive Call of Duty: Ghosts, though many fans blame it for starting the trend of Call of Duty games embracing futuristic, sci-fi elements instead of the boots-on-the-ground gameplay that made the series popular in the first place. Things like Advanced Warfare's Exo Suits would go on to influence Call of Duty gameplay for years to come until Call of Duty: WW2 took the franchise back to its roots, a move solidified by the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot.

Assuming the leaks are true, other classic Call of Duty games could be getting the spotlight as part of Modern Warfare 3's post-launch seasons, not just Advanced Warfare. Assuming MW3 seasons are as long as previous Call of Duty games, fans can expect about six of them to take place between the game's launch and the release of the 2024 Call of Duty game. It remains to be seen which six Call of Duty titles will get the honors, but if the rumors are to be believed, Advanced Warfare will be one of them.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
