Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 2 will start on February 11, and it's bringing with it plenty of new content for fans of the first-person shooter franchise. Activision and Infinity Ward are keeping most of the details under wraps for now, but they have teased the addition of Simon "Ghost" Riley as a multiplayer operator, not to mention the return of a fan favorite Modern Warfare 2 map.

In the short teaser for Ghost in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, fans can see images of what appears to be the popular Modern Warfare 2 map Rust. The images, as spotted by Charlie Intel, aren't hugely detailed, so it's possible that they may be unrelated to Rust. However, Rust was discovered in the Modern Warfare game files long ago, so it seems inevitable that it will be debuting in the game at some point down the line.

Rust makes sense for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for a couple of reasons. For one, it's one of the most popular maps in Call of Duty history, and secondly, its small size is exactly the kind of map that the game needs. At launch, Modern Warfare was criticized for having maps there were too large, and to date, there are only two small maps available in standard multiplayer - Shipment and Shoot House.

Rust's small size doesn't just make it a good map to inject some variety into the Modern Warfare online multiplayer experience. It also means that it can pull double duty, bolstering the game's lineup of 2v2 Gunfight maps. Gunfight has proven to be one of the most well-received new features in Modern Warfare, and adding such a popular map to it can only mean good things.

While it does seem likely that Rust is coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, fans shouldn't get too excited just yet. Nothing official about Rust has been announced by Infinity Ward, and even if it is coming to the game, it may not come with the February 11 update. Modern Warfare fans will have to wait to learn more about what to expect from the start of Season 2.
