The Call of Duty series is renowned for its unforgiving fast-paced action. There's a new difficulty mode exclusive to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It's called Realism, and it's the hardest difficulty. Without a HUD, the campaign becomes overwhelming. Thrill-seekers and completionists alike need to play these games. Here are ten first-person shooter games harder than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

10 Titanfall 2

While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is mostly a straightforward shooter, a game like Titanfall 2 is no cakewalk. You have to pilot sophisticated mech robots that step with force. These machines have unique skills that give the game a significant learning curve.

The single-player campaign can also be challenging. You play as Jack Cooper, an individual hellbent on becoming a pilot. Pilots run on walls, jump high in the air, and knee slide across the floor. Comparable to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Titanfall 2 takes things to the next level with more gameplay depth.

9 Battlefield V

The age-old debate continues regarding whether Call of Duty or Battlefield is the superior first-person shooter franchise. While a series like Battlefield has traditionally contained larger scale battles, Call of Duty is now expanding.

Both games feature battle royale modes, but which is more difficult? Let's place the bugs of Battlefield V aside for a moment. Long-range shooting takes more practice in Battlefield V. With more vehicles to drive and pilot and more time being stuck in the trenches, Battlefield V is considered harder than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

8 Dying Light (Hard Mode)

Dying Light's Hard Mode was added with Patch 1.5.0. The base game was difficult when you were fighting off hordes of zombies, but Hard Mode is the game in a new light. Enemies can withstand more bullet damage and deal more damage to players. You also have less stamina, so escape is sometimes not an option.

For those who played the game, it's hard to forget those long nights from which there was no escape. Nights are now twice as long, and nightcrawlers no longer show up on your mini-map. As you could imagine, Dying Light on Hard Mode is way harder than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

7 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

A plethora of reasons explains why Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is more difficult than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Both games utilize gadgets, but the close-quarter nature of Rainbow Six Siege makes these gadgets more difficult to use. Swapping between gadgets and knowing each's purpose are some of the hardships of playing Rainbow Six Siege. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is an exceptional pick-up game, whereas Siege has a lengthier learning curve.

6 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

It's not so much learning the fundamentals of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive that makes it difficult, but its players' caliber. Call of Duty and Counter-Strike can be played on the PC with a mouse and keyboard. However, Counter-Strike takes effective communication and knowing a map inside out to achieve victory. You'll have to budget cash, which gives the game an added layer of complexity. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare may also have competitive players, yet Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is seemingly more difficult.

5 Escape From Tarkov

Now we're getting into the gritty stuff. Escape From Tarkov is an indie hardcore massively multiplayer online first-person shooter game. It sounds like a mouthful, but playing the game isn't any easier. Escape From Tarkov has a punishing learning curve because it's unlike any game out there. Even after watching gameplay videos, this game is a challenge. You'll have to die numerous times before PVP gets any easier. Trying the same predictable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare tactics won't help you in this game.

4 Metro Exodus (Hardcore Ranger)

Metro Exodus has five difficulty settings, and it comes abundantly clear from playing the settings that it's tougher than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The most challenging setting, Hardcore Ranger, disables the HUD. Without a crosshair, this is like shooting in the dark.

Don't try playing the game like it's Call of Duty because it won't work. Metro Exodus is a game that relies on stealth and patience. The window of opportunity is often one second, so keep your finger on the trigger.

3 Far Cry (Realistic Mode)

Far Cry on realistic mode is way too hard for the average player. It makes a game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare look like a cakewalk. Possibly the only way to beat the game on realistic mode is to memorize the enemies' positions and shoot before them. The Call of Duty series has its fair share of difficult games, but clearly, the developers made the original Far Cry almost impossible. Most people would agree that you need cheat codes to beat Far Cry on realistic mode. At least the game has a quick save function.

2 Halo 2 (Legendary)

Oddly, Halo 2 is an outlier in the series for being way more difficult than other installments. Playing the game on legendary is harder than the other games by a tenfold. Halo: Combat Evolved's grenades can be irksome, but Halo 2's enemy damage takes things to a new level. You'll be overwhelmed by heavy bullet fire from enemies. It's almost like Halo 2 turns into a cover stealth game while on legendary. This chaotic difficulty mode is one of the hardest in first-person shooter history.

1 DOOM Eternal (Ultra-Nightmare)

According to techtimes.com, "Ultra-Nightmare mode is apparently so difficult that even the creators of the game can't beat it." They were referring to DOOM (2016), but DOOM Eternal is considered even more difficult. What does that say about the difficulty of DOOM Eternal? The hardcore, fast-paced action and seemingly endless spawn of enemies will leave you speechless. This difficulty mode wasn't meant to be completed by the average player; it's pure madness.
