Highlights

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies' post-launch content looks promising thanks to the addition of the VR-11 Wonder Weapon and the Rifts endgame activity.
  • While loot is currently in a solid place, Treyarch could focus on improving it in Season 1 to enhance the overall gameplay experience.
  • Suggestions to improve loot include making Mercenary fights more rewarding, reworking sellable items, and allowing players to keep more items between matches. DMZ's Dead Drops and permanent Schematic cooldown rewards would also be welcome.

As long as it is supported properly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies has a bright future ahead of it. Season 1 seems like a promising start for its post-launch content, as a modified version of the VR-11 Wonder Weapon from Call of the Dead is being added as well as a proper endgame activity called Rifts, which will take gamers into the Dark Aether. While turning foes like mercenaries and Zombies into friends will be fun, and Rifts will provide some much-needed challenges for those that have already completed the base game’s Acts, loot is another area Treyarch could focus on in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 1.

To be clear, loot is in a solid place at the moment, and Treyarch has other issues to prioritize with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies’ first major update. Exfils in MWZ are dreadfully boring following a patch designed to make the mode more stable, while round-based fans are also desperate for some kind of content that caters to their preferred style of gameplay. The story could also use some more interesting audio logs and documents for lore lovers to really sink their teeth into. Still, loot is integral to every match of Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, so improving upon it as often as possible would be ideal.

Making Mercenary Fights More Worthwhile in MWZ

Currently, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies’ Mercenaries are a bit unrewarding to fight. Like DMZ’s overpowered AI foes, their accuracy was absurd, as they used to instantly shred armor even in the tier 1 zone. While Treyarch has nerfed them in response of complaints, making them tough again while encouraging players to fight them could be a better idea. Giving players a few hundred points per kill could be one simple change to make, while letting them drop higher rarity weapons instead of basic white ones could also help. Additionally, letting their helicopters in the Escort mission and Fortress drop loot crates when destroyed could make shooting them more worthwhile, while the Fortress itself should have far better loot.

Reworking MWZ’s Sellable Items

Currently, selling items in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies is not as attractive of an approach as it should be. While gathering and selling the items around a buy station is one of many good unwritten rules in MWZ, those looking to carry items across long distances will find themselves needing to dump some of their loot constantly, as there is just not enough room to justify carrying random items. A Season 1 update could boost the prices of looted items significantly, making it more appealing to gather and sell them. Alternatively, something like Diablo 4’s Gem Bag could be added, letting players stash only sellable items within a pouch, freeing up a lot of space. Perhaps this pouch could be exclusive to the large rucksack for balancing purposes.

For the sake of variety, it would also be nice to see more lootable items in MWZ , as players can only see so many toy knives before their immersion is broken.

Letting MWZ Players Keep More Items Between Matches

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies allows players to keep certain items between games, like equipped streaks, self-revives, and equipment. However, it should give players more options when it comes to stashing gear. If gamers extract with an extra large rucksack or tier 3 vest, for instance, they should be able to stash it for later use. Considering how unstable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies is, that would surely be appreciated, as players will often crash and need to rebuild their Operators' arsenals from scratch. Additionally, though the Castle grave feature exists, letting players who extract with a Pack-a-Punched weapon keep a version of that gun would be nice. For balancing purposes, a tier 3 weapon could be knocked down to a tier 2, and a 2 to a 1, when players reuse it in their next match, keeping some level of progress.

Adding Dead Drops and Cooldown Missions to MWZ

A few features from DMZ that would be nice to see in MWZ are Dead Drops and Cooldown Missions. Dead Drops served as containers in Al Mazrah that players could use to dump their extra gear, lowering the cooldown on their ensured slots in the process. They could serve the same purpose in Zombies if added, lessening the time players have to wait to reuse a schematic. Additionally, future Zombies missions could have large cooldown rewards for schemetics, permanently decreasing cooldown times by 25% and 50%. With 48 hours being far too long to wait to craft each Ray Gun or Wunderwaffe DG-2, letting players earn shorter cooldown times would be ideal.

Encouraging MWZ Players To Buy Perks For Later Use

Far too often in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, players will find themselves with a lot of extra points at the end of a match, having little to spend it on if they are all geared up. However, Treyarch could provide a solution to this while simultaneously making perk machines more exciting to visit while deployed in Urzikstan. Instead of players only having the option to purchase a perk and drink it immediately after they do, they should be able to buy and stash a can in their rucksack so that they can use it in their next match.
