Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies is bringing back the original form of PhD Flopper, and it will seemingly work just like it did in its earliest iterations. Further, as shown by a brief clip, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s open-world setting will let players pull off some wild stunts with the perk.

PhD Flopper made its debut in the beloved Zombies map Ascension, and it instantly became a fan favorite upon its release. However, it has had an interesting history. After featuring in Black Ops 1’s DLC maps, it was used to troll players in Black Ops 2, being just out of reach on Die Rise and Mob of the Dead. After finally being usable in Origins, it went on a big hiatus before returning as PhD Slider. However, though PhD Slider was still a solid perk, players felt like sliding removed one of its most fun aspects: dive explosions.

Not only does the perk provide explosive damage immunity, but as its name suggests, PhD Flopper also rewards players for diving on the ground. If they dolphin dive off structures like staircases and ledges, a mini nuke explosion will kill any undead foes unlucky enough to be roaming around on the ground below. This led to players having a blast jumping off areas like the Ascension staircase, or using Black Ops 2's Persistent Perk version of Flopper to wreak havoc on Buried. Fortunately, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s movement system offering sliding and dolphin diving, PhD can return in all its glory.

Players hoping to see PhD Flopper in action are in luck. As part of the Call of Duty Next event, Modern Warfare 3 Zombies was discussed in detail, with gameplay of the open-world mode shared during and after the event via content creators. A brief moment in this footage shows a neat use of PhD Flopper, with a player dolphin diving off a large rooftop and falling for several seconds. Once they land, a massive explosion wipes out some Zombies below.

Though the look of the explosion has changes from a traditional burst of napalm to a blue-ish aetherium explosion, the effects are the same. Players have fantasized for quite some time about using PhD Flopper to dive off of skyscrapers, something that made the Die Rise troll all the more frustrating when that map debuted over a decade ago. Now, it seems like fans will finally be able to dive off some truly massive structures.

Whether returning features like PhD Flopper are enough to hook longtime Call of Duty Zombies fans on the mode remains to be seen. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies is different in many ways, from its large player count to its extraction timer, so fans will just have to try the mode for themselves in one month’s time.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
