What to Expect From the Call of Duty Franchise in 2024

Call of Duty is bigger than ever before, and though it feels like MW3 has just come out, 2024 is almost here and so is the next phase of CoD.

As of this writing the Call of Duty Double XP period is currently live and will last until June 3 at 10 am PST. This means that players will be able to boost their online level until Season 3 ends on May 29, and jump-start their climb to prestige through the beginning of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 4. Those who don't yet own Modern Warfare 3 will also be able to play the Multiplayer and Zombies modes for free from May 30 to June 3.

According to the official Call of Duty blog, Season 4 is going to bring with it some major content updates to Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer modes, including Zombies. Modern Warfare players can expect new maps, new equipment, and new game modes designed to force players to change up their tactics to win. Most of Warzone's updates concern the Urzikstan map, where players will find activity around certain bunkers, along with different ways to exfiltrate to victory. Players will also find new content in Warzone designed to revitalize the Battle Royale mode. Players will also find new game modes, new vehicles, and even new Gulag layouts. Also coming to Call of Duty are the Mobile Suit Gundam bundle packs and skins, allowing players to hit the battlefield dressed as various mechs from the Gundam series.

Black Ops 6 Tie-Ins Possible, Unclear

With very few details regarding Black Ops 6, it's unclear whether some of the updates are lead-ins to the plot of the game, or fit into the story in any way at all. The blog post warns players that as the season goes on, certain modes will see increased levels of "[[REDACTED]]" as they get "one step closer to the truth." The current tagline for Black Ops 6 is "The Truth Lies," which seems to line up with the word choice in the blog post as well as the liberal use of "[[REDACTED]]" throughout. The enigmatic marketing campaign for the game is underway, but no concrete direct connections have yet been found between it and Warzone or Modern Warfare 3.
