Sledgehammer Games has released a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 update that makes notable adjustments to multiplayer features and spawns on certain maps. This new update also disables the controversial "Groot" operator skin, which has been causing problems for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players in recent weeks.

New Modern Warfare 3 updates are handled by both Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch, since the Call of Duty developers work to improve and add new content to the multiplayer and Zombies components respectively. Following the game's launch on November 10, the development teams have been gathering feedback from players about issues involving gameplay mechanics, bugs, and matchmaking. Multiple updates have been released in Modern Warfare 3's pre-season, including an update that nerfed popular assault rifles in order to raise the viability of underperforming SMGs. What's more, Sledgehammer Games assured players that the infamous Gaia skin from Modern Warfare 2 would be disabled until proper adjustments are made to its visibility in Modern Warfare 3.

Call of Duty Issues Statement on Modern Warfare 3 SBMM

The Call of Duty team issues a statement addressing players' concerns about Modern Warfare 3's skill-based matchmaking system.

In the November 30 update for Modern Warfare 3, Sledgehammer Games disabled the Gaia and Gaia Blackcell skins for the Nova operator. The developers note that Gaia will be temporarily disabled until visibility changes can be released to all players. The patch notes also reveal multiple changes, bug fixes, and adjustments to menus and loadouts in Modern Warfare 3. Going forward, attachments that are equipped to weapons in private matches will now be saved to their respective loadouts after returning to the game's main menu. An issue that caused loadouts to appear as placeholder items while transitioning from Modern Warfare 3 Zombies to multiplayer was fixed as well.

The latest Modern Warfare 3 update brings spawn adjustments for the Rust, Operation Spearhead, and Farm 18 maps. Firstly, initial spawns on Rust have been adjusted to prevent players from spawning on each other. The Rust fix is applied to Free-For-All matches only, so it's not applicable to Modern Warfare 3's new Rustment 24/7 mode. Additional spawn points have been added to the Operation Spearhead map to prevent the defending team from being spawn-trapped by their opponents. Additionally, a Farm 18 spawn point has been relocated to stop players from going outside the map, and a similar spawn point exploit was addressed on Sub Base.

Sledgehammer Games also addressed two lingering issues involving explosive damage and Search and Destroy bombsites in the new update. EOD Padding gear will now restrict explosive damage to 80% of the player’s maximum health as originally intended. The sliding exploit for bombsite planting and defusing has also been fixed for Search and Destroy in Modern Warfare 3.

Although the campaign wasn't well-received, Modern Warfare 3 appears to be a major success as Sledgehammer Games actively communicates with the player base and ensures that players are engaged with the multiplayer and Zombies modes. The November 30 update brings crucial bug fixes and changes that players have been asking for since launch, and many more updates will come in Season 1.
