Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Ranked Play mode has finally launched following a slight delay, allowing players to begin progressing through its skill divisions and earning the mode's exclusive rewards. January 17's Season 1 Reloaded update introduced major bugs to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 that led to the mode's release being pushed back.

Call of Duty's newest content update created game-breaking issues that affected the game's Warzone, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes. This led Modern Warfare 3's Ranked Play mode to be delayed until a future date. Call of Duty's announcement regarding this matter was vague as to when the mode's eventual release would be, so some users worried that it would be days or weeks until Ranked Play finally launched. However, Call of Duty fans just got some relieving news.

Call of Duty adds a modified version of the 'evil Groot' skin, a.k.a. the Gaia skin, back to the game alongside the Season 1 Reloaded update.

The official CODUpdates Twitter account announced that Modern Warfare 3's Ranked Play mode is now live. Fans of Call of Duty's competitive scene can finally jump into matches using the same settings, modes, and maps used by the Call of Duty League. Players will need to be level 55 or higher to participate in the new mode. All items are unlocked when creating Ranked Play loadouts; however, many items and weapons that have been deemed uncompetitive are restricted in Ranked Play. Modern Warfare 3's Ranked Play utilizes its own level system that consists of "Ranks," which reflect a user's overall experience in the mode, and "Skill Divisions," which reflect a user's skill during a given season. Additionally, Ranked Play users can unlock exclusive rewards including camos, skins, weapon blueprints, and more as they win matches and work their way up the ranks.

Modern Warfare 3 Ranked Play Rewards in Season 1

  • Win five Ranked Play matches to earn the “MWIII Season 1 Competitor” Weapon Sticker.
  • Win 10 Ranked Play matches to earn the “Pro Issue Gutter Knife” Weapon Blueprint.
  • Win 20 Ranked Play matches to earn the “Script Writer” Weapon Charm.
  • Win 30 Ranked Play matches to earn the “Built Different” Large Decal.
  • Win 40 Ranked Play matches to earn the “MWIII Ranked Play Season 1” Loading Screen.

Ranked Play users should note that friendly fire is enabled during the mode's 4v4 matches. Ranked Play also features strict skill-based matchmaking to help ensure fair matches, but fans of Call of Duty's regular Multiplayer are probably already familiar with this concept. Recently, Call of Duty unveiled its Limited Matchmaking system, which targets troublesome players and separates them into a separate matchmaking queue. Although it certainly has its drawbacks, some CoD fans are probably happy to hear of such a thing.

Fans of competitive Call of Duty can also check out Team Gunfight, a new mode added with Season 1 Reloaded. Unlike classic Gunfight, Team Gunfight is a 6v6 mode on regular maps that utilizes Gunfight's unique, competitive-focused settings. Other modes added with Season 1 Reloaded include Headquarters and Infected.
