It's no secret that some guns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 perform significantly better when kitted out with the best attachments. The real problem is getting said guns up to a high enough level to actually unlock those important attachment slots.

How to Farm Weapon XP in MW3

Terminal returns in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

The best way to farm weapon XP in Modern Warfare 3 is to play the newly returned War Mode -- a 6v6 mode where teams take turns attacking and defending objectives. The game ends when the attackers complete the final objective or if the defenders successfully hold out until the match timer ends.

War Mode is great for XP farming because of how concentrated the action is. Although it doesn't have the same max player count as Ground War, the fact that the fighting is always concentrated around one or two objectives at a time means players get more kills per match, translating to more XP in the long run.

To make things better, players always respawn close to the fight in War Mode, keeping each match fun, engaging, and as close to the traditional COD multiplayer formula as possible. Players don't need to worry about snipers camping from across the map or armored vehicles peppering objectives with explosives.

Still, players shouldn't totally discount Ground War as a viable mode for Weapon XP farming in Modern Warfare 3. Players who know how to take advantage of the mode's large maps and more chaotic nature can easily snag kills with their chosen weapon. It definitely requires more patience, however, as fighting is often spread out over multiple locations.

The new Zombies mode does grant Weapon XP for each zombie kill; however, the amount given to players is abysmal. It'll take a few hundred zombie kills to get a single weapon level, so going down this route is not recommended. If players do intend to play Zombies, they should still bring a weapon that they want to level up so they don't miss out on XP.

Lastly, keep a lookout for Double XP events or limited-time playlists. Should MW3 get Shoot the Ship or 24/7 Rust, players might have a better time getting Weapon XP in these playlists than any of the modes listed above.
