Activision and Sledgehammer Games are giving away free Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 beta codes as early access begins for those who've pre-ordered the new game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 beta will be held over two weekends, so those who prefer to play on PC and Xbox platforms still have an opportunity to secure a slot for the open beta period.

Modern Warfare 3 pays homage to 2009's Modern Warfare 2 with several returning maps, the return of antagonist Vladimir Makarov, and a new take on the infamous "No Russian" level. The recent Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer trailer delved deeper into the all the returning maps, which includes Favela, Estate, and Rust to name a few. From October 6 to October 7, PlayStation fans who have pre-ordered Modern Warfare 3 may now revisit these classic maps in a console exclusive beta. Fortunately, those who have not pre-ordered the game still have the opportunity to earn a free Modern Warfare 3 beta code for the platform of their choosing.

The development team at Sledgehammer Games reveal major changes coming to the Gunsmith customization tool in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The official Call of Duty Twitter account is giving away 25,000 free Modern Warfare 3 beta codes to fans since its PlayStation beta early access post surpassed 5,000 retweets. Those eager to try out the Modern Warfare 3 beta may click on the giveaway link, log into their Call of Duty account, and register their platform and location to receive a code. If the user registers for a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 code, they are given access to the early access beta and subsequent open betas. Call of Duty fans who register for the Xbox and PC versions must wait until October 12 for the second beta weekend, however.

Modern Warfare 3 beta codes are expected to run out fast due to high demand, but the open beta will be available from October 8 to October 10 for all PlayStation gamers. In addition, gamers will have access to the Modern Warfare 3 open beta from October 14 to October 16 on all platforms. The second open beta will support cross-play, which allows Call of Duty fans across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms to play some of Modern Warfare 3's confirmed game modes together.

Both of the open beta weekends should give gamers an ample opportunity to try out Modern Warfare 3 for the first time. Moreover, a special reward may be unlocked in the Modern Warfare 3 beta after reaching level 30. The first weekend is capped at level 20, so skilled players must wait until the second weekend to continue leveling up.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
