The FR 5.56 returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as a three-round burst rifle that's much more capable of winning firefights than its counterpart in the early remake trilogy. While it demands more precision than other assault rifles, it rewards skill with extremely fast takedown times, and it can even eliminate opponents with a single burst if used properly.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Players Aren’t Happy About Latest Update

The most recent update to Modern Warfare 3 makes a change to the fan-favorite Zombies mode that has left many players disappointed.

Like all weapons in the game, the FR 5.56 can perform better (or worse) depending on what attachments it's kitted out with. The following are some recommendations on how to make this weapon feel better for two different situations to help Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players get the most out of it in multiplayer games.

Fast moving FR 556 build in MW3

There are two ways to build the FR 5.56: the first is to double down on its role as a mid-range weapon, and the other is to make it a fast dueling rifle with high handling and movement speed. It's up to players to decide which playstyle they want to adopt, as both are completely viable ways to use this weapon. The attachment setups are as follows:

Precision FR 5.56

  • Muzzle: VT-7 Spiritfire Suppressor
  • Underbarrel: Kimura RYN-03
  • Ammo: Hollowpoints
  • Rear Grip: SA ION
  • Sight: Any

Speed FR 5.56

  • Underbarrel: DR-6 Handstop
  • Ammo: Hollowpoints
  • Stock: FR Sprinter
  • Muzzle: Shadowstrike Suppressor
  • Sight: Any

Recommended class items include:

  • Vest: Infantry
  • Gloves: Marksman
  • Boots: Stalker
  • Gear: Ghost T/V

For general use, the Infantry vest and Stalker boots are the best options players can choose. They're the most versatile out of all options since they don't focus on any specific playstyle. Marksman gloves are great for precision weapons, and the Ghost T/V camo can keep players off the map even while the enemy has a UAV up.

The Precision setup reduces the gun's kick to make it more accurate over longer distances, making it easier to hit headshots against targets that are over 25 meters away. Meanwhile, the Speed setup greatly increases the FR 5.56's movement speed while aiming down, making players harder to hit in close-ranged gunfights.

Hollowpoint Rounds are great for burst-fire weapons since they slow enemies down on hit. These make follow-up bursts easier to land, and they can throw the enemy's movement off as well. Fighting against SMG players in close range will still be difficult even with the slow effect, however.

There are a few things to note about the FR 5.56. First, having less recoil control may be better in certain situations. This is because the upwards kick of the weapon can make landing headshots easier if players aim for the upper chest. Hitting one body shot and two headshots to anyone within 30 meters is enough to guarantee a one-burst kill.

Second, the FR 5.56 normally takes four bullets to kill a target. Using the weapon in semi-auto is often better when running and gunning, especially since the delay between bursts is long enough to get players killed if they miss.
