Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has officially started. The new season brings with it a significant amount of new content for both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, including new game modes, weapons, operators, features, and cosmetics. It's been three months since Season 1 began, so Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 players are anxious for a fresh start. That start begins today, as Activision kicks off Season 2 with a bang. While Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has lasted a long three months, Activision and its studios have continued to support the game with routine updates. A mid-season refresh was even delivered with Season 1 Reloaded, adding the Shipment map, Atomgrad Episode 1 RAID, and substantial quality-of-life improvements to both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. But there's little denying that Season 2, its new content, and its changes, has been looked forward to for some time.RELATED: Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Bug Makes Players Stuck When Trying to Revive TeammatesThe biggest addition to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the introduction of the new Ranked mode for Multiplayer. Developed by Treyarch with the Call of Duty League in mind, Ranked allows players to climb through seven Skill Divisions based on skill-based matchmaking. Season 2 also brings with it four new Modern Warfare 2 maps, including the Dome and Valderas Museum core maps, and the Zaya Observatory and Al Malik International battle maps. If that's not enough, players will also be getting Infected, Gun Game, and Grind game modes at launch, with more modes throughout the season.

Warzone 2 is similarly stacked with new content. The highly-anticipated Resurgence Mode is back with an all-new map. The map's name is Ashika Island, it's Japanese-themed, and while still considered compact it's larger than previous Warzone 2 small maps. Ashika Island will have multiple new ways to earn cash, including picking up dog tags from fallen allies or via the new Search and Seizure contract. There's also a new Data Heist public event to find on Ashika.

DMZ isn't being left behind, either. Season 2 of DMZ will introduce a new Exclusion Zone on Ashika Island, offering a fresh start to the experience alongside the game mode's first full progression reset. A new faction, Crown, has been introduced, spawn points on Al Mazrah have been moved, and both AI and mission difficulty have been dramatically re-tuned.

In many ways, Season 2 marks a dramatic new beginning for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2. For Call of Duty fans who felt like they'd gotten the full experience of both games, it may be worth revisiting to see what's changed. Season 2 has officially begun.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 are available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
