Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most talked about releases within the entire gaming industry, with the popularity of the title inexorably opening it up to a huge amount of attention and scrutiny. Despite being half a year into its life cycle, the continuous and frequent seasonal updates that the title receives fosters a constant wave of new experiences, as well as new criticisms from fans.

One of the dominant talking points of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 concerns the alleged lack of content that the game launched with from a core multiplayer perspective. These allegations have been consistently made against the title since its release, yet the upcoming Season 3 of Modern Warfare 2 has already impressed many with the breadth of content it is set to introduce. Possibly indicating a positive upturn in reception for the title, there is one aspect of Season 3's battle pass in particular that offers an unprecedented benefit for consumers.

The Criticisms of Modern Warfare 2

The main issue that many fans have with Modern Warfare 2 stems from the lack of attention that has been placed on the franchise's classic core 6v6 multiplayer experience. Many state that other CoD titles such as Warzone 2 have taken too much attention away from the more traditional multiplayer of the IP, with multiplayer seasons having to spread their content across both releases and their encompassing modes.

Season 3 has done well to displace these criticisms by adding three new 6v6 maps to Modern Warfare 2, as well as seeing the return of the fan-favorite 2v2 mode Gunfight. These changes in particular have long been demanded by the game's fan base, and it is clear that Infinity Ward is satisfying huge swathes of MW2's community with these proposed changes. With that being said, there is one aspect of Season 3's battle pass that offers a more implicit but just as welcome benefit to the game overall.

The Benefit of Modern Warfare 2's Season 3 Battle Pass

The battle pass is key for any Modern Warfare 2 in-game season, with battle passes becoming the growing norm in the world of online shooters after being popularized by titles such as Fortnite. Each season's battle pass is usually unique to the overall theme of a given season, containing unlockable content in the way of weapon blueprints, skins, calling cards, emblems, and brand-new playable operators.

The usual formula of Modern Warfare 2's battle passes sees there be one new operator per season, however, the upcoming Season 3 battle pass boldly does away with this. Launching on April 12, the CoD Season 3 battle pass is set to feature two operators in what is a relatively unprecedented move for the franchise. Battle passes are usually limited to a single defining operator, with more than one operator in a battle pass only occurring once before in 2019's Modern Warfare.

Both operators possess an evidently unique look and feel, further typifying the value of having both of them be available within a single battle pass. Modern Warfare 2 has faced criticism for the content bundles the game possesses, and something like an extra operator could have easily been placed in a separate bundle. Instead, players get more value for their money and wider access to content, which is undoubtedly a good move for the title moving forward.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
