When it comes to the Call of Duty franchise, one of the most popular games is easily 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the much-hyped sequel to the ground-breaking Call of Duty 4, featuring an action-packed campaign, fun Spec Ops co-op challenges, and an incredibly addicting multiplayer with some of the franchise's most well-designed and memorable maps.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 earned widespread critical acclaim at the time of its release and was incredibly popular, so it's no surprise that some Call of Duty fans are wanting to go back and relive the game's glory days. A TikTok video uploaded by user gmbnoah is asking all Modern Warfare 2 fans to return to the game on Tuesday, December 21 to pack the servers and bring MW2 back for one night only.

The video has amassed over 56,000 likes and has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times at the time of this writing with more engagement with each refresh, indicating that many are onboard with returning to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on December 21. Of course, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 didn't have cross-play for multiplayer, so it's not entirely clear what platform fans will be returning to the game on, but regardless, it will be interesting to see just how many turn out and try to relive MW2's glory days.

This isn't the first time that someone has used TikTok to bring attention back to an old online multiplayer game. Earlier this year, a diehard Halo: Reach fan asked Xbox 360 players to return to Halo: Reach before its multiplayer servers were shut down. Similarly to this video by gmbnoah, the Halo: Reach video went viral. It even managed to catch the attention of Xbox, so it will be interesting to see if anyone official reacts to gmbnoah's Modern Warfare 2 video.

In the meantime, Call of Duty fans may soon have a new "Modern Warfare 2" to look forward to. Reliable leakers have suggested that the Infinity Ward-developed Call of Duty game dropping in 2022 will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, with Roman numerals as a way to differentiate it from the 2009 game. This game will be a direct sequel to the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot and if the leaks are to be believed, will have a story about drug cartels.

The 2019 Modern Warfare reboot featured many familiar faces from Modern Warfare 2, and one has to imagine that they will show up in the 2022 game as well. Popular Modern Warfare 2 characters like Soap and Captain Price seem like givens, but fans will have to wait and see to be sure.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
