Call of Duty: Vanguard isn't even out yet, and rumors are already swirling about the 2022 Call of Duty game. Reportedly a sequel to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the rumored Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is supposedly well into development at Infinity Ward. Rumors have started spreading about what Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will entail, and one of the more recent ones is rather surprising.

Twitter user RalphsValve tweets primarliy about Call of Duty news, and they have been tweeting "leaks" about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Like with any other supposed "leak," it's always better if fans take the information with a massive grain of salt. RalphsValve has not provided any evidence to back up their claims, and so whatever they say about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 can only be taken as an unsubstantiated rumor for now.

That being said, one of the recent claims RalphsValve has made about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is that the game will have a PT-inspired game mode to replace Spec Ops. PT, for the uninitiated, is the "Playable Teaser" for the cancled Silent Hills project that Hideo Kojima was working on. It's a first-person horror gaming experience where players walk through an endlessly looping hallway, bombarded by ghastly images and ghostly apparitions the entire time.

Call of Duty has dipped its toe in the horror genre on numerous occasions, but this is still a strange claim nevertheless. The implication that this mode is replacing Spec Ops suggests that it could have some co-op functionality as well, though that's just speculation at this time. RalphsValve followed up the claim with two images, one of P.T. and the other of the controversial Modern Warfare "Clean House" mission.

The Clean House mission in 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was highly controversial at the time of the game's release as it sees SAS Forces raid a terrorist safehouse that's also occupied by innocent civilians, even a literal baby in a crib. Part of the mission's challenge is to quickly determine who is a threat and who is not, with Modern Warfare letting players kill civilians if they slip-up. The mission takes place at night and so players have to rely on night-vision technology to see in the dark, adding to the intense atmosphere.

It's easy to see how that disturbing scenario could lend itself well to a horror game-style mode, though how exactly that would be received in a Call of Duty game remains to be seen. RalphsValve has also claimed that the Modern Warfare 2 campaign will have realistic gore, so it will be interesting to see if any of their claims are true. Call of Duty fans likely won't find out for sure if there's any truth to these rumors until Modern Warfare 2 is officially revealed, which will likely be sometime next summer.
