Even though Call of Duty: Vanguard has yet to launch, leaks have already started popping up about the 2022 Call of Duty game, rumored to be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This supposed sequel to the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game is said to be in development at Infinity Ward, and while an official announcement hasn't been made, many of the leaks have come from reputable sources.

The latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 leak comes from TheMW2Ghost, a Twitter account that has accurately leaked Call of Duty news in the past. Even so, fans should always take leaks with a grain of salt. It's always possible that the leaked information is inaccurate or that plans will change during the development process.

If TheMW2Ghost's information is accurate, it seems that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be bringing back classic, fan favorite multiplayer maps from the original 2009 Modern Warfare 2 game. TheMW2Ghost implied as much with a tweet showing screenshots of classic Modern Warfare 2 maps with a hashtag for MWII. According to the rumors, the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will actually be titled Modern Warfare II with Roman numerals as a way to differentiate it from the original game.

The maps in question are some of the most popular maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 game: Afghan, Highrise, Favela, and Terminal. And while it will likely be at least a year, if not longer, until fans find out if these maps are coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see at least some of them make the cut.

As some may recall, there were numerous leaks for the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game that insisted that maps like MW2's Terminal would be getting remastered for the game. These leaks came from reputable sources as well as datamining efforts, yet it never actually happened. However, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare still featured plenty of remastered maps, and so it stands to reason that the 2022 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will have plenty of remastered maps of its own.

If Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is bringing back these classic multiplayer maps as rumored, it will be interesting to see how many will be in the game at launch and how many will be released as post-launch content. If other recent Call of Duty games are any indication, it's likely that the remastered maps will be saved for post-launch updates, like we're seeing with Shipment in Call of Duty: Vanguard.
