Players can sometimes suffer more embarrassing fates at their own hands than at the hands of other players, and this was exactly the case for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 player after a grenade toss ends in comically fatal fashion during a multiplayer match. "Hail Mary" grenade toss kills are not uncommon, especially with the grenade variety in the latest Call of Duty giving players a degree of flexibility when attempting these blind throws across the maps. However, it appears this wasn't enough to prevent disaster for the player in question who was a little too blind when attempting to toss their grenade across the map.
The grenades available in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, much the like the other weapons available, are a key part of any working loadout when hopping into the game's multiplayer arenas. Lethal-minded players have a variety of explosive solutions ranging from frag grenades to semtex to score those kills, whether it be from a blind toss to a well-timed, perfectly-cooked grenade. The more tactile players, though, have their own options to play with between options such as stun grenades, decoy grenades, or smoke grenades if they want to get the momentary advantage in a heated gunfight.
Reddit user Mateto3 appeared to be a more lethal-minded player as they were attempting to score the blind toss kill during a game of team deathmatch on Zarqwa Hydroelectric. Rather than the grenade sailing across the map, though, it ricochets off a lamp post before bouncing off rocks right back into Mateto3's face before killing them. Mateto was able to have a laugh at their own misfortune, though, and shared the clip of their failed grenade toss on the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit for all to see and have a laugh at the failure of a grenade toss.
The humor of Mateto'3s clip wasn't lost on some other Reddit users, echoing how unintentionally funny the grenade toss and its result ends up being. One user compared it to the Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote's attempts to catch the Road Runner, all of which end in comical disaster for the cartoon coyote. Given how the grenade bounced back to Mateto3 like a pinball, one could be forgiven for thinking it was one of the many Acme products Wile E. Coyote used in his hair-brained schemes.
Ultimately, Mateto3's view of his own downfall and the reaction of others to the clip can be argued as being the kind of reactions more players should have to situations such as this grenade throw. Toxicity in the Call of Duty community has become more common thanks, largely, to the combination of competitive gameplay and social media, making it difficult for some players to enjoy the series' fast-paced, sometimes chaotic gameplay. If more players were to adopt Mateto3's attitude to his own mistake, it would make the community more approachable for more players to hop into the series going forward.
