The imminent fifth season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will add the iconic gaming protagonist Lara Croft as a playable operator. Details about Season 5 have been rolling out as Season 4 of Call of Duty comes to a close. The new season, set to begin on August 2, will see the return of campaign character Phillip Graves, two new multiplayer maps, an in-game reveal of 2023's Call of Duty game, and much more.

Season 5 will have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's hot crossover streak continue. Previous seasons added playable operators like Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir from Amazon's ever-popular TV series The Boys during its most recent season. This upcoming fifth season is already loaded with crossovers as it looks to celebrate 50 years of hip hop by adding legendary artists like Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and 21 Savage to the already long roster of playable operators. The celebration will mark Snoop Dogg's second appearance as a mainline Call of Duty operator, as he had previously appeared in 2021's Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Now, another legend is confirmed to be joining Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as part of Season 5. Briefly mentioned in the PlayStation Blog's coverage of Season 5 is the classic protagonist of the long-standing Tomb Raider franchise, Lara Croft. The post mentioned that the gaming icon's operator bundle will be made available in the middle of the season, likely as part of Season 5's potential mid-season "Reloaded" update.

Lara Croft in Tomb Raider

Though this is an awesome addition to Call of Duty for fans of the beloved Tomb Raider franchise, there are questions surrounding which platforms the bundle will become available for. Lara Croft is currently only confirmed to be coming to Call of Duty in the PlayStation Blog breakdown of Season 5, and not in the breakdown on Call of Duty's own website. Additionally, there's no mention of Lara Croft on Xbox's Twitter or Xbox Wire. Lara Croft being exclusive to Call of Duty players on PlayStation would be a strange move considering the Tomb Raider games have historically been multiplatform. Since Lara Croft isn't arriving until mid-season, perhaps it's just too early to know.

It's been almost five years since the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy concluded with 2018's underwhelmingly received Shadow of the Tomb Raider, so there's no doubt fans of the franchise are hungry for a new full game. While Crystal Dynamics is cooking up a new Tomb Raider title with support from publisher Amazon Games, the project is still likely several years away from releasing. Until then, Call of Duty and Tomb Raider fans alike will have to wait a couple more weeks to learn more about the legendary treasure hunter's arrival in Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
