Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's collaboration with Godzilla x Kong includes the B.E.A.S.T. Glove that costs more than the game itself to unlock, and fans are not impressed. While most users have come to accept Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's in-game store as a regular feature, its expensive bundles often stir up frustration.

In March, Call of Duty announced its newest wave of collaborations, which included popular franchises like Dune, Warhammer 40K, and Godzilla x Kong. Call of Duty later announced its Godzilla x Kong: Battle for Hollow Earth event that runs from April 5 to April 10 and lets users unlock exclusive items inspired by the franchise. While that event and other Godzilla x Kong store items were mostly well received by CoD fans, the collaboration's most pricey item was met with much less enthusiasm.

Call of Duty Nerfing Controversial SMG

Raven Software confirms plans to nerf a controversial makeshift SMG that has been dominating Call of Duty meta for a while now.

While users can get the base version of the weapon for free through the battle pass, the B.E.A.S.T. Glove blueprint for it can only be unlocked by purchasing four separate bundles that each cost 2,400 CoD Points (about $20). After doing so, the B.E.A.S.T. is added to the user's inventory as a bonus and allows the player to equip the large glove used by Kong in the franchise's newest movie. Since it's paywalled behind such a high price, fans expected valuable features like a kill effect or a set of attack animations. However, many say that the item is surprisingly bland for its cost. The B.E.A.S.T. can not equip camos and does not include the previously mentioned features, although it does have a satisfying sound effect and unique inspect animation thanks to its Mastercraft Blueprint status. Twitter user DetonatedCom shared a clip of the B.E.A.S.T. in action.

Call of Duty B.E.A.S.T. Glove Costs $80 to Unlock

Unfortunately, extremely expensive Call of Duty items aren't much of a surprise seeing how much Activision focuses on microtransactions and the massive amount of money they generate. In 2021, the publisher raked in $5.1 billion from the practice, a number that doesn't even count regular game sales. On the bright side, items like the B.E.A.S.T. are at least purely cosmetic and don't offer any real advantages over other players, for the most part.

A contrasting issue was seen with Call of Duty's Gaia skin which gave users an advantage thanks to its camouflaged and semi-translucent appearance. The skin was eventually adjusted to remove these advantages after months of complaints.

Activision's tactic of paywalling certain items behind multiple bundles was recently seen with Call of Duty's Hunger Pains skin. To unlock it, users had to purchase two bundles for a total of 3,400 CoD Points. While not as egregious as the B.E.A.S.T.'s cost, this generated plenty of criticism on its own. Many fans hope these recent offerings aren't a sign of a new trend for Call of Duty's store, although it seems increasingly likely this could be the case.
