INside of a new blog post, Activision confirms how Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 player will be able to carry their content forward into Modern Warfare 3, as well as what is available to transition. For Call of Duty fans, it has been an exciting week after the cover art for the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 leaked sooner than the developers at Sledgehammer Games wanted. Instead of denying it, Activision not only confirmed the next mainline game but shared a bit more.

Over the past few days, the Call of Duty social media accounts have been teasing fans with new reveals, the return of villain Vladimir Makarov, and promises of a Modern Warfare 3 worldwide reveal on August 17. As expected, the latest Call of Duty title is also launching later this year on November 10, promising a continuation of the story with Captain Price and Task Force 141. To help ease the transition for players moving games, Activision has not only confirmed a new Carry Forward feature, but identified which content can be moved.

For the first time in the franchise, Activision is introducing a new mechanic called Carry Forward for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. As the name implies, this system will allow players to transfer their content from a previous Modern Warfare game into the next iteration. The blog specifically states that a player's unlocked weapons, attachments, camos, Blueprints, Operators, Operator Skins, cosmetic bundles, emblems, and other rewards will be available to carry forward. Better yet, this includes content from the current version of Call of Duty: Warzone2 as well.

Naturally, if there is a piece of content that isn't actually in Modern Warfare 3, the unlocked cosmetic item for it will not carry forward as the blog has confirmed not all MW2 vehicles and Wartracks won't be available. In addition, Modern Warfare 3 only players will not have access to base operator characters from Modern Warfare 2, which typically had challenges that needed to be accomplished before they were made playable. Similarly, with weapons, MW3 only players will get access to Modern Warfare 2 weapons, but they'll have an associated unlock challenge that will first need to be completed

Moving between games has been a contentious sticking point, especially for live service style games. Call of Duty has dabbled with integration techniques for the highly popular Warzone, keeping it consistent even when a new game launches. The system hasn't been perfect, as it has occasionally ruined the meta with overpowered weapons, caused certain glitches, and other unforeseen issues. However, this Content Forward policy seems like a step in the right direction, especially for fans of the traditional multiplayer experience

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming on November 10.
