Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War received its last Zombies map several months ago, with Forsaken setting up an interesting future for the Dark Aether storyline. However, fans will soon have a reason to return to the 2020 title’s Zombies mode, as Treyarch has announced some extra content. Alongside a new ranged weapon and Operator, Season 3 is bringing the Outbreak Collapse LTM. More importantly, there is a big secret in this update that Treyarch is teasing.

According to the developer, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans who completed all six main quests will be able to access “over a dozen unique rewards” as well as a “permanent upgrade in every Zombies map.” With players needing to find the location of this content, it certainly seems like a super easter egg. How exactly Treyarch approaches the rewards is anyone’s guess, though there have been two super easter eggs in the past that could provide a bit of an idea as to what is coming.

Potential Rewards For Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Super Easter Egg

Two Call of Duty Zombies experiences have dabbled with super easter eggs, with Infinite Warfare Zombies and Black Ops 3 providing extra content for those that finished the other main quests. Infinite Warfare’s super easter egg was extremely thought out, as it allowed players to access an extra boss if they finished all the other quests. The Director’s Cut mode served as an excellent reward, with players able to greatly speed up their games through numerous upgrades. Black Ops 3’s super easter egg was far more simple, as it allowed players to permanently start games with the RK5 pistol instead of the MR6.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s super easter egg will likely follow in the footsteps of Black Ops 3, as it is hard to imagine an extra boss fight coming to the mode alongside Director’s Cut features. Instead, players will likely just be able to open up a locked door to gather some special loot. Treyarch’s hint of a “permanent upgrade in every Zombies map” sounds a lot like the permanent RK5, too. Perhaps players that have completed all the main quests will start every match with their weapon at Pack-A-Punch Tier 1, speeding up matches and allowing them to save some points.

The concept of finding a location to access the super easter egg rewards is interesting, and it should be fun to watch players search for the bonus rewards once the patch drops. While it is possible that this location could be hidden inside a previously closed off portion of a map like Mauer Der Toten or Forsaken, it might also be incorporated into one of the Outbreak maps. As shown with Ruka, Treyarch is willing to add Zombies-only areas to the fireteam maps. As such, one of the Outbreak maps could be expanded with an extra location. Treyarch is also adding a new Outbreak mode alongside this super easter egg, which could be seen as a hint to look around inside Outbreak.

While a permanent Pack-A-Punch upgrade seems possible, and it makes sense for the location of the “secret” to be somewhere in Outbreak, it remains to be seen what the other rewards will be. With “over a dozen” items available to those that finished the six main quests, there is clearly a lot to collect. These rewards could be an assortment of camos, calling cards, and emblems, with an Operator skin also being a possibility.

Perhaps the most likely scenario is an exclusive bundle for Zombies fans that completed each main quest. The dataminers that leaked WMD and Jungle also found Zombies-themed cosmetics in the files. Specifically, Pack-A-Punch camos and a Ravenov Operator were seen in the game’s code. These could be excellent rewards for dedicated players, as they can spawn into Zombies and multiplayer with a gun that looks Pack-A-Punched. An entire Operator in the form of Ravenov is a massive reward, too. While this is purely speculation, perhaps the leaked Zombies cosmetics will be free instead of items players buy with COD Points. Thankfully, with Season 3 just a week away, fans will not have to wait long for answers.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
