Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies has been getting several quality-of-life updates as of late, ranging from Onslaught improvements to Dead Ops Arcade 3’s battle pass progression. However, the latest change for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies is arguably the most exciting, as players are finally seeing weapon unlock challenges added to the mode.

Previously, weapon unlock challenges were tied directly to multiplayer. If gamers wanted to unlock a midseason weapon, or a gun from a previous Season, they were forced to play against others online. This ensured that Zombies fans were missing out on some of the most exciting content updates if they did not want to grind out multiplayer. Further, some of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weapon challenges take an extremely long time to complete, adding to the issue.

With the unlock challenge for the Crossbow recently being bugged, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans had to play even more multiplayer if they wanted the special weapon — something that quickly frustrated the mode’s community. Fortunately, it seems that Treyarch has heard all the player complaints, as weapon unlock challenges will finally be coming to Zombies soon. Going forward, gamers can acquire every weapon by only fighting the undead if that is their preference.

The weapon challenges will begin to roll out for Zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 3, with the image in question showing off the challenge for the Crossbow. Players will need to kill 50 special enemies with a weapon that has been Pack-A-Punched at least two times, a task that will take some time but is certainly manageable. With several Mimics and Manglers spawning in on the high rounds of Firebase Z, the challenge will only take two long games to complete if players are actively trying to finish it.

With the R1 Shadowhunter overpowered in Zombies and able to kill Orda quicker than any other weapon when paired with Ring of Fire, players will want to finish this challenge. The Crossbow is far from the only piece of gear that will now be attainable through Zombies, however. Every post-launch gun released for the game thus far will get a challenge, regardless of whether it is an old battle pass gun or midseason weapon. Melee weapons will also get challenges, which is a huge plus given how tough they are to unlock in multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans have also been assured that future weapon additions will get unlock challenges in the mode as well. With six new Season 3 weapons on the way, this excellent change could not be coming at a better time.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
